With silver buckets of incense burning behind the stage and an elaborate introduction, Bob Dylan took the stage at Assembly Hall on Friday night with his band members – all of whom were dressed in black, with Dylan looking like he was straight from an old Western movie.

Francis Ford Coppola chastises trio of actors

NEW YORK – Everyone wants to work with Al Pacino, Robert De Niro and Jack Nicholson – except Francis Ford Coppola. Coppola, who directed Pacino and De Niro in “The Godfather” trilogy, said the trio of Oscar-winning actors have become apathetic.

‘Susannah’ storms the Musical Arts Center this weekend

An intense exploration of hypocrisy, false accusation and the consequences of both will take place this weekend at the Musical Arts Center. Carlisle Floyd’s “Susannah,” the most-performed American opera, opens at 8 p.m. Friday. It is the second production of the IU Opera Theater’s 2007-08 season.

Since she was a child, junior Samantha Weiss has wanted to work in a museum. Now, after enrolling in IU’s new undergraduate Arts Administration Program, Weiss was granted the chance to intern next summer at the Indianapolis Museum of Art. “I always had an interest in museums, but wasn’t aware of how to study it in college,” she said.

Spice Girls greatest-hits album to be available in stores Nov. 13

NEW YORK – Wanna be the first to score a copy of the Spice Girls greatest-hits album? You’ll have to go through Victoria’s Secret to get it. The newly reunited British girl group’s CD will be available starting Nov. 13 at Victoria’s Secret stores and on the company’s Web site in the U.S., Capitol Music Group said Tuesday.

High fashion, to me, is an art form. There is so much that goes into it that it is hard for me to think of it any other way. But what happens when high fashion is exploited? The result is what we are now seeing at lower-end stores such as Target and Kohl’s: legitimate, established designers doing collections for mass-market retailers.

Jens Lekman will play an acoustic set at the Waldron

Spirit of ’68 Promotions, a Bloomington-based promotions company, announced that Swedish singer-songwriter Jens Lekman will be playing an acoustic set at 8 p.m. Oct. 23 at the John Waldron Arts Center. The show, which will seat 100 people, is in addition to Lekman’s 9 p.m. performance scheduled that same night at Jake’s Night Club and Bar.

Tickets available for next week’s Governor’s Arts Awards

The 2007 Governor’s Arts Awards ceremony will be held at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 25, at the Musical Arts Center. Tickets are available for both the ceremony and the celebration dinner immediately following at the Bloomington Convention Center. The ceremony will feature special performances from three of the six honorees.
