Five faculty members received the IU Outstanding Junior Faculty Award for their dedication to teaching, research and service. Winners were Brian D’Onofrio, Christiane Gruber, Ho-fung Hung, Daniel Kearns and Marissa Moorman.

Hoosiers outplayed in big loss

The NBA All-Star Game 2010 Weekend won’t begin until Friday, but Wednesday’s IU and Ohio State game at Assembly Hall had the looks of it. There was plenty of dunking – alley-oops, two-handed flushes and a near-perfect windmill attempt by Ohio State’s William Buford. There were a fair amount of 3-pointers shot.

The Bloomington Area Arts Council Board voted unanimously Tuesday to expand the governing board by recruiting locally.

BPD officer’s merit, performance awarded

During undercover operations, Bloomington Police Department Detective William Jeffers was able to make drug contacts. These same contacts were able to assist him in charging four men in the murder of Mario Wright, which occurred July 19, 2009.For this reason, Jeffers was named BPD’s Officer of the Year.

Teen arrested in killing of anti-gang counselor

LOS ANGELES — When Ronald “Looney” Barron urged a young graffiti tagger to put away his paint cans, he was doing what he viewed as his mission — steering kids away from crime — but he paid for it with his life. Los Angeles police arrested a 16-year-old boy on Tuesday, saying he would be charged with murder for shooting Barron to death Sunday night after Barron confronted him.
