Dr. Nelson Shaffer, geologist and head of the Indiana Geological Survey’s Coal and Industrial Minerals Section, recently received the “Aggie Award” for 2009.
This award “recognizes an exceptional contribution to the Indiana aggregate (sand and gravel) industry by a non-member of the Association,” according to a press release.
Shaffer is being honored after working in the aggregates industry for more than 35 years. He has given presentations, helped train organization members and conducted research projects.
He was also awarded the Distinguished Geologist award by the Professional Geologists of Indiana in November for his “outstanding contributions to the practice of geology and geological sciences,” according to the release.
The Indiana Geological Survey is a research institute of IU. It strives to “provide geologic information and counsel that contribute to the wise stewardship of the energy, mineral and water resources of the state,” according to the release.
