Performance marks opera’s 60th anniversary

Local artists able to benefit from Lilly Endowment

The Bloomington Area Arts Council is encouraging local artists to report all financial losses from recent flooding. Local artists who submit damage reports will be able to benefit from the recent Lilly Endowment of $50 million toward statewide disaster relief.

'Stop and Start'

Bloomington resident Brett Volpp paints a traffic control box Wednesday evening at the corner of Rogers Street and Kirkwood Avenue. The control boxes are part of a Bloomington Area Arts Council project called "Stop and Start." Although the project was meant to be completed, recent heavy rains forced delays in beginning the project.

Symphony orchestra performs for IU Summer Music Festival

Applause filled the Musical Arts Center as a final rush of music filtered through the air. The symphony orchestra conducted by Cliff Colnot played Brahms’ “Academic Festival Overture” and “Symphony No. 2” Tuesday. The performance was one of several scheduled for this year’s IU Summer Music Festival. More than 40 performances have been scheduled for the festival, which features top conductors and performers from all over the world.

Punk is dead, and Emo should be next

With the punk/emo genre becoming more immersed in the mainstream over the past few years, it has been expected to see the so-called “scene” itself changing. In the last three or four years, the atmosphere within the emo scene has morphed dramatically, and sadly, not for the better.

Concert lacked life in the house
