The Jacobs Opera and Ballet Theater will present its Fall Ballet showcase opening Friday at the Musical Arts Center. It will be performed Oct. 24 and 25, with showings at 7:30 p.m. each evening and a matinee 2 p.m. Saturday.

“The Book of Mormon” national tour is returning to Bloomington for three performances Oct. 3 and 4. There will be an 8 p.m. performance Oct. 3 followed by performances at 2 p.m. and 8 p.m. Oct. 4. Additionally, each show will feature a free pre-performance talk will take place one hour before each performance, led by IU assistant professor in the Department of Theatre, Drama, and Contemporary Dance Richard Roland at Fine Arts Building Room 015.

The Tony Award and Pulitzer -winning rock musical “Next to Normal” is bringing Broadway to Bloomington at Constellation Stage & Screen’s Waldron Auditorium. The production is directed by Kate Galvin and brings to life Brian Yorkey’s book and lyrics along with Tom Kitt’s musical score.

Bloomington took a journey to Middle Earth with two dazzling “Lordt of the Rings” drag performances Saturday, Dec. 7 at the John Waldron Arts Center. Drag kings and queens took to the stage in Lord of the Rings inspired garb for Oriana Perón’s World of Fantasy premier show at the Waldron. There was an all-ages performance at 2 p.m. and an adult-only version at 8 p.m. Both were co-hosted by drag queen Oriana Perón and drag king Verna Vendetta.

The IU Department of Theatre, Drama, and Contemporary Dance performed “Pipeline,” a play by Dominique Morisseau at 2 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. Feb. 29-March 8 in the Wells-Metz Theatre. Morisseau has written numerous plays focusing on marginalized communities and the challenges they face. I was truly amazed by the performance, and how IU put up the play. The setting, acting and music were outstanding, and it echoed perfection.

Ohio based folk band, Over the Rhine and folk artist John Paul White are set to perform at 7:30 p.m., Feb. 24, in the Buskirk Chumley-Theater. The show is presented by Bloomington Roots and is planned to last two hours and 30 minutes.

IU students and the people of Bloomington gathered Sunday evening to celebrate the year of the dragon at the “Dragon Brings Fortune, Together We Paint the New Spring” Lunar New Year gala hosted by the IU Chinese Students and Scholars Association. The event, held in the IU Auditorium, was open to the public and free for all to attend.

Rap artist NLE Choppa is set to perform at 8 p.m. Feb. 15, in the IU Auditorium. Known for singles including “Shotta Flow” and “Camelot,” the 21-year-old artist garnered over 21.3 million monthly listeners on Spotify since launching his rap career in 2018.
