Kelly Hill, the author of the new book, “A Home for Friendless Women," will visit Morgenstern’s Bookstore for a conversation about her new historical novel, and will be signing copies at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday July 25. Hill will discuss the book with Jessica Hille, who is a gender and sexuality scholar and the Assistant Director for Education at IU’s Kinsey Institute.

The Fourth of July Parade and the 9 a.m. performance by the Bloomington Community Band is cancelled, according to a City of Bloomington press release Thursday. The Fourth of July Parade was set to take place 10 a.m. - 11:30 a.m. in Downtown Bloomington but has been cancelled due to severe weather.

Bloomington punks young and old came together Saturday outside the Monroe County History Center for Streetdance Rewind, a free outdoor music festival which celebrated the scene’s history with the talents of current and classic Bloomington-based bands.

The Monroe County History Center will host Streetdance Rewind, a free outdoor punk music festival, at 5 p.m. on June 29 on Sixth Street in front of the History Center. The event is happening in conjunction with The History Center’s exhibit “Punk @ the Old Library,” which captures the history of Bloomington’s punk scene from the 70s to the present moment.

The biggest event of the summer Granfalloon festival is the main stage concert, which has boasted nationally touring acts such as Japanese Breakfast and The Flaming Lips, went off with a bang last night as My Son the Hurricane, The Linda Lindas and headliner Sleater-Kinney closed out the festival.

Granfalloon, an arts and music festival inspired by famed Hoosier author Kurt Vonnegut, begins May 20 in Bloomington. This year the festival is themed around Vonnegut’s novel “Jailbird,” which examines the labor movement, the turn of the century and the Watergate scandal through a memoirist style. At 6 p.m. April 10 at the FAR Center for Contemporary Arts, members of the Bloomington Poetry Slam and other community members gathered to celebrate the launch of Dan “Sully” Sullivan’s new book, “O Body,” a collection of poems that delves into questions of masculinity, fatherhood, home and the complex relationship with one’s own body.
