Welcome back to the weekend show guide. As the semester ends, there are many exciting annual spring events and the return of monthly performances. There are also plenty of hard rock and heavy metal shows to mosh out any finals season frustration. Here’s what’s happening:
At 6 p.m. April 10 at the FAR Center for Contemporary Arts, members of the Bloomington Poetry Slam and other community members gathered to celebrate the launch of Dan “Sully” Sullivan’s new book, “O Body,” a collection of poems that delves into questions of masculinity, fatherhood, home and the complex relationship with one’s own body.

Local artists, community members and students involved in WIUX and Music Industry Creatives at IU gathered in the I Fell Gallery in anticipation of the WIUX Culture Shock lineup Friday. They shared refreshments, conversation and wandered around the gallery space admiring the art on display.
WIUX, the City of Bloomington and Music Industry Creatives are collaborating to bring together art and music at 7 p.m. March 28 at the I Fell Gallery as the WIUX Culture Shock festival lineup is revealed.

Welcome back to the weekend show guide! As we head into spring break, celebrate your hard work with an evening at The Bluebird Nightclub or The Buskirk-Chumley Theater. While this weekend is a bit quieter than previous, there are still plenty of fun events to go to.
The Namby Pamby, an all-female indie rock trio, performed at 10:30 p.m., March 1, at The Bishop Bar along with Cal in Red and Milkwood.
As part of its International Art House Series, IU Cinema will screen the Oscar-nominated and Cannes Grand Prix-winning film “The Zone of Interest” at 7 p.m, March 6.
Welcome back to the weekend show guide! Metal heads can rejoice, because this weekend kicks off Black Metal Fest to showcase the loudest and darkest in Black metal music. There’s a lot to love this weekend with plenty of local rock and indie singer-songwriter shows as we kick off a new month and slowly near spring.
The 2004 biopic film, “Kinsey” takes an empathetic approach to Dr. Alfred C. Kinsey’s life-spanning work, pursuit of truth and captures the controversy surrounding his research amid the 1940s and 1950s. It is a fascinating look into the Kinsey Institute as an important part of IU’s history — Herman B Wells, beloved chancellor of Indiana University is even represented in the film — that is still surrounded by controversy even today.
“Romeo & Juliet” will screen 1 p.m., Mar. 3 at IU Cinema as part of National Theater Live, which according to the IU Cinema event website, seeks to bring excellence in live British theater to cinemas internationally. National Theater is British theater company famous for its productions of Shakespeare, as well as new and original productions.
IU Cinema will screen two adaptations of “Little Women” as part of its ‘Re:Made’ series.

If you’re in the mood for experimental music and explorations of sound, this is the weekend for you. There are also some incredible shows this weekend for roots and acoustic fans at The Bluebird Nightclub and The Buskirk-Chumley Theater.
