J.D. Campbell, IU athletics media relations director, confirmed there will be a press conference at 11 a.m.
Phillip Eskew, a member of the IU Board of Trustees, told Michael Sanserino of the IDS that Crean is officially coming to IU. He said he expected an annoucement in a press conference tomorrow.
UPDATE: 6:13 Michael Sanserino here: I just got off the phone with trustee Philip Eskew Jr., and he said he has not been contacted regarding Tom Crean. "I've been watching along with everybody else." He said he's expecting to get a call from trustee president Stephen Ferguson when something was "close" to happening. --- OK folks, it's been one crazy day for the IU men's basketball team search.
IU director of media relations J.D. Campbell told the IDS this morning that sophomore guard Armon Bassett and Jamarcus Ellis have been officially let go from the team.
IU coach Bill Lynch loves to give short answers, then a longer answer, then follow it back up with his original short answer. At one of the practices last week a question was asked what area's his team needs to improve on most.
The Indy Star is reporting that guards Armon Bassett and Jamarcus Ellis have been kicked off the team for missing meetings. As it seems Dakich is not going to coach next season, does he have the right to do this?
I know, I know, I'm late-- As an IDS staffer of three years, a one-semester editor and first-time Little 500 rider, I was asked by our visual and multimedia editor, James Brosher, to blog my rookie experience from the track.
Bruce Pearl said IU "was" his dream job. But now, he says he believes there is no difference between Tennessee and IU in terms of elite programs. "Why would I leave a program I built?" Pearl asked SI's Dan Patrick.
I was on the message board Peegs.com today when a poster proposed an interesting question: " I know there are donors, but could the IU athletic department setup a PayPal type system so normal people could donate $5, $50, $100 towards the new coach's salary?" With conflicting reports on how much the University can afford, I thought this was pretty interesting.
Senior forward D.J. White was named a second-team All-American by the AP today while teammate Eric Gordon was named to the third team.
That is correct. In this space, I told you Josh Phegley's Saturday home run was about three rows deep into the bleachers at the Hubert Humphrey Metrodome. But my sources tell me it was quite a bit further.
Hey folks, As promised, enjoy. Props to Ryan for getting the interviews, I just did the easy part. Jason Ferrell is a sophomore left-hander from Columbus, Ohio.
UPDATE: In the following segment, former IU guard A.J. Ratliff, who is a basketball analyst for WTHR, said he believed the reports were premature.
The rumors keep flying about the IU coaching situation....here is what has come to light today. Washington State's Tony Bennett turned down the job according to the Spokesman Review blog. Now Chris Korman of the Bloomington Herald Times, a friend of the IDS, is reporting that IU has approached Xavier's Sean Miller about the open position. There has also been talk of UNLV coach Lon Kruger and former Stanford and Golden State Warriors' coach Mike Montgomery being considered. Right now, this search seems up in the air.
It may sound like a bad drink favored by our northern neighbors. But alas, it's what I've termed the Hoosiers' performance this Saturday after IU split a double-header with the Gophers. After losing game on 5-4, the Hoosiers took the second contest 8-3, giving them a chance to come away from their first conference series with a split decision, pending the outcome of tomorrow's game. In the first game of the day, the Hoosiers succumbed to a four-run third inning en route to a 5-4 loss.
Hey everyone. I just got back from the track after a very competitive day of racing. After all was said and done, Isaac Neff of Black Key Bulls won for the men and Sarah Rieke of Teter successfully defended her Miss-N-Out crown from last year. The unofficial men's results went as follows: Isaac Neff-Black Key Bulls Clayton Feldman-Cutters Nick Sovinski-Phi Delta Theta The rest of the final heat included Sigma Alpha Mu's Stephen Quay, Delta Sigma Pi's Tyler George and Phi Delta Theta's Matt Kain. For the women, Teter dominated once again with the top two finishers and four of the top six finalists.
Hey guys, I just wanted to let you know that Brian and I will be at the track today to catch the later heats of Miss-N-Out.
According to ESPN's Andy Katz, Tony Bennett has not been offered the head coaching job at IU. Both a source close to the investigation and Bennett told Katz the University has not made an offer. The source also told Katz that former Stanford and Golden State Warriors coach Mike Montgomery is a serious candidate. The source told Katz IU hopes to name a new coach by Thursday, before the Final Four.
Jeff Goodman of Fox Sports is reporting that IU has offered Washington State's Tony Bennett the coaching position for the Hoosiers. While Bennett would not be a surprise, the timing seems a little early with rumored IU targets Rick Pitino of Louisville and Sean Miller of Xavier still in the tournament.
