A Look Inside the Hoosiers Win

As the snow pours down outside my window this morning the IU women's basketball team didn't have to deal with any snow on their road trip as they captured a 69-54 victory over the Miami Hurricanes in Coral Gables, Florida, Friday night. Brandon Smith's article in Monday's IDS Here are some additional notes and stats from the game -It was a game of runs, as Miami struck first with a 12-4 run, and lead 24-15 with 6:30 to go in the first half -The Hoosiers closed out the second half with a small run of their own and cut the deficit to 32-28 -IU went on a 8-0 run early in the second half to claim a one point advantage with 16:26 to go in the game -Hoosiers used 8-0 and 14-0 runs later in the second half and with 4:08 left had an 18 point lead -IU out rebounded Miami 50-39, and held the Canes to just 32.8 (21-64) shooting from the field Next up for the Hoosiers: After five games on the road the team returns home to Assembly Hall on Tuesday for a match up with in -state foe Butler.

And another one, another one

As if this were a surprise, it appears Josh Phegley and Matt Bashore are on another award watch list, this time for the Brooks Wallace Player of the Year Award, given by the College Baseball Foundation. Sorry I didn't have this up sooner, I got tipped off this morning at the IU Athletics gear firesale (where I, of course, made away with much sweet loot). Phegley was actually one of only a handful of watch-listed players named in the College Baseball Foundation, which signals he's probably high on the list. The full release is below.

A look back, Wake Forest 83, IU 58

Tom Crean said he and his team will take something away from every game this season, with Wednesday being no exception. IU's 83-58 marks another first in a season of firsts for the Hoosiers, Crean explained. First road loss. After leading 18-17 early in the first half, a lot went wrong for the Hoosiers (4-3). They committed a season-high 26 turnovers (seven by Dumes, six by Story). They shot only 37.7 percent from the field.

I spy with my little eye ... Bawa Muniru!

IU Class of 2009 recruit Bawa Muniru was spotted courtside before Wednesday's IU-Wake Forest game. Due to complex and unwritten rules I don't fully understand, we didn't talk to Muniru out of fear, but our photographer Jay Seawell did capture this pic of the 6-foot-11 recruit. Muniru lives in North Carolina and plays high school basketball in Durham.

IU-Wake Forest tonight ... predictions?

Kirby and Dollinger woke up at the crack of 6 a.m. today, and are presently hurtling through the cool Midwestern morning toward Winston-Salem, N.C., where IU will take on Wake Forest tonight (in case you hadn't heard). It's a nine-hour drive, so be nice to them. I, however, am braving through the perils of college life -- waking up before noon, not falling asleep in class, walking all the way from my place near Yogi's to campus, uphill both ways in the snow, etc. Anyhoo, general wisdom is it's going to be a rough, rough, rough night for the Hoosiers down in ACC country against a tall, long, fast Wake Forest team with a point guard in Jeff Teague who's shooting the lights out right now (57 percent from behind the arc; p.s.

Jackson named Big Ten Co-Player of the Week

Senior forward Amber Jackson was named Big Ten Co-Player of the Week after leading the Hoosiers to the tournament championship in the Hilton Concord Classic last week in Moraga, California. In the two games of the tournament against Radford and host Saint Mary's Jackson totaled 50 points on 20-24 shooting from the field, and 10-13 from the free-throw line. This tournament was also special for Jackson because her mother saw her play for the first time in her college career. Jackson, who was born in Japan while her father was there with the U.S.

IDS Basketball Guide: "Season of '69"

Here is another story posted online from our annual basketball guide from a few weeks back. As the headline hints, this feature is about the Hoosiers' 1969-1970 season, the worst year record-wise since the program joined the Big Ten.
