Thought I would provide you all with some reading pleasure whilst I procrastinate away the evening, originally slated to be spent writing a paper. I trust you are doing the same (the Basketblog does not endorse academic laziness, we only practice it).

Enjoy

Crean gives Legette-Jack some dap This comes to you courtesy of our friend Jeremy Rosenthal over at our sister blog, Above the Rim. It seems that, after the IU women's basketball team's tournament win out in the California over the break, coach Felisha Legette-Jack found herself walking across the court during the men's practice, at which time Tom Crean stopped practice and raised a cheer for Legette-Jack, shouting "give it up for the champions."

Legette-Jack talked about it later at her radio show Monday night, click here to check it out.

Women's basketball gets plenty of flak from men's fans all over the country who claim they only want to watch "true" basketball (as I'm sure it will in the comments section at the bottom of this post). But seriously folks, I covered this team last year. They're fun to watch and they've got the talent to put together a run at the top of the Big Ten. At worst, they'll win quite a bit more than they lose.

Anyway, shameless plug over and done with.

Watford wins it with style I don't mean to steal Jordan Cohen's always-impressive thunder, but I couldn't help myself with this one:

This story in the Birmingham News tells me (and you) that Christian Watford had a rather exciting Saturday night. The consensus four-star IU signee nailed a shot with one second left to give Shades Valley a 47-45 victory over nearby Vestavia Hills.

The win grabbed for Watford's team the Sneaky Pete's Rebel Classic tournament championship, as Watford scored 16 of his game-high 21 points in the second half. Only in the lovable, sultry south would Sneaky Pete's -- hot dog connoisseurs they are in the Birmingham area -- get to put its name on a tournament. If I close my eyes and squint, I can almost taste the sweet tea.

Dakich gets one right Friend Chris Korman of the Bloomington Herald-Times has this to say about Dan Dakich's recent and stringent defense of some of the players he last year removed from the IU basketball team. It came on the heels of an Indianapolis Star article in which some former players, among them Joe Hillman, questioned said former Hoosiers' characters rather harshly.

I won't step too hard on Korman's toes, just reading his post will say all that needs said.

I'll give you this one quote, and I encourage you to listen to the linked audio.

"While Joe Hillman was playing golf at a country club, Jamarcus Ellis was living in a car."

As I said, 'twas a rather full-throated defense.

Jones day to day This also from the Scoop by way of Tom Crean's show Monday night at Coaches (which I promise I'll begin attending just as soon as I no longer have to play sports editor at the IDS every Monday night as well):

Verdell Jones is being treated by team doctors as though he has a concussion, and he is currently day-to-day.
