What we learned at the Hoosier Invitational

This weekend's men's tennis tournament may not have a huge impact on the rest of the season, but it was significant. Heading into the weekend, head coach Randy Bloemendaal had no idea how well the freshmen would play.

IU season ticket prices announced

Season tickets for men's basketball are now on sale, according to an IU Athletics press release. The tickets will run students $220 and cover 14 games, including matchups with Maryland, Kentucky, Michigan State, Ohio State, Illinois, Wisconsin and rival Purdue. "Since the moment we arrived, I have said that our students create an unbelievable environment that makes Assembly Hall so tough for the visiting team," IU coach Tom Crean said in the release.

Hoosiers a top-25 team?

There's an interesting idea on IU football coming out of Fort Wayne, Ind., and for once, it has a positive tone. News-Sentinel columnist Pete DiPrimo has suggested that IU could crack the AP top 25 if they leave Ann Arbor, Mich.

Big Ten Power Rankings, week 3

So, the Big Ten still has not proved much about itself through the traditional non-conference season (there are a few remaining non-conference games sprinkled throughout the rest of the year). Is Penn State the real deal?

Student t-shirt contest announced

IU Athletics announced on Friday that it would be sponsoring a t-shirt contest for men's basketball student season ticket holders. IU fans and students can submit entries until Sept.

Hoosiers close home tourney with second straight sweep

The IU volleyball team completed the T.I.S. College Bookstore IU Invitational with a straight-set victory over North Carolina A&T. The Hoosiers (11-3) won by scores of 25-10, 25-17 and 25-18. The Hoosiers cruised in the match's initial set with freshman outside hitter Jordan Haverly recording four kills and a service ace.

Freshmen leading Hoosiers

The opening weekend of the men's tennis season is usually about the freshmen and other youngsters that are trying to prove themselves for the first time. This weekend, it has been about the IU freshmen. Josh MacTaggart (United Kingdom) and Isade Juneau (Quebec) advanced to the championship match in the Hoosier flight singles.

Men's golf 12th after two rounds

The Hoosiers men's golf team sits in 12th place out of 15 teams at the Olympia Field Invitational. Senior Alex Martin leads the Hoosiers with a 147 total and is tied for 23rd individually.

IU defeats Akron, 38-21

AKRON, Ohio -- In their first convincing victory of the season, the IU football team dominated throughout much of the game en route to a 38-21 victory in their first road contest of the year. The Hoosiers (3-0,0-0) held a 17-14 lead going into the half and pulled away in the second half with 21 unanswered points. IU opened the game with a 91-yard kickoff return for a touchdown by Ray Fisher and added a Nick Freeland field goal to take an early 10-0 lead. Akron refused to back down, however, and the Zips struck back with a 49 yard touchdown pass and a blocked punt which they recovered in the end zone to go on top 14-10.

Indiana beats BSU in a close game

No. 17 Indiana won its home opener 2-1 against the Ball State Cardinals. The Hoosiers move to 5-2 overall in the season. The game started to the Hoosiers favor by a goal scored by freshman forward Brooke Borneman at the 4:42 mark.

IU sweeps Alabama A&M

The IU volleyball team rebounded from Friday's loss to Western Michigan with a victory over Alabama A&M in straight sets today. The Hoosiers (10-3) swept the match by scores of 25-10, 25-16 and 25-20. IU jumped to an early 5-0 lead in the match's initial set with freshman defensive specialist Laura Matula recording two service aces.

Hoosiers top Green Bay 2-0

The No. 22 ranked Hoosiers hosted the Green Bay Phoenix tonight at Jerry Yeagley Field and wrapped up their non-conference schedule with a 2-0 victory to put the team at 8-1 on the year. Freshman striker Orianica Velasquez-Herrera scored both goals tonight for IU.

Hoosiers fall to Western Michigan 3-1

The IU volleyball team opened the T.I.S. College Bookstore IU Invitational with a loss Friday. The Hoosiers (9-3) fell to Western Michigan in four sets by scores of 22-25, 24-26, 25-19 and 23-25. "It was a little bit frustrating," IU volleyball coach Sherry Dunbar said of the match.

Akron quarterback suspended

Akron starting quarterback Chris Jacquemain was suspended indefinitely. The school did not give a reason and there is no timetable for his return. In two games this season, Jacquemain has thrown for 320 yards with four touchdowns and one interception. Stay with Hoosier Hype for more information regarding this developing story.
