The IU volleyball team rebounded from Friday's loss to Western Michigan with a victory over Alabama A&M in straight sets today.

The Hoosiers (10-3) swept the match by scores of 25-10, 25-16 and 25-20.

IU jumped to an early 5-0 lead in the match's initial set with freshman defensive specialist Laura Matula recording two service aces. The team jumped ahead on several Alabama A&M errors and claimed the first set decisively.

The Hoosiers received significant contribution from younger players, including freshman middle blocker Samantha Thrower, who recorded four kills and accounted for four total blocks, and freshman hitter Shawn Hindman, who saw her first action of the season after being sidelined with injury. Hindman registered four kills.

IU's hitting attack was too much for the Bulldogs (5-8), who totaled 19 attack errors in the match.

The Hoosiers play one more match today at 7 p.m. against North Carolina A&T. IU coach Sherry Dunbar said she hopes the team comes out with intensity as the contest will be the last before the team opens Big Ten play.

"It's about us right now," Dunbar said. "We had a long meeting last night and this morning about competing harder"
