IU in search of 3-game win streak

It's been well-documented that IU grabbed its first road win since Feb. 23, 2008. Well, Sunday will give IU the opportunity to complete its first three-game win streak since that very date, when IU completed both feats against Northwestern in Evanston, Ill. The win would be another step toward rebuilding for IU coach Tom Crean's team. IU has obviously progressed from a year ago.

Hoosiers look to get first Big Ten sweep of the season

FINAL: MI 70, IU 56 HALFTIME: IU 27, MI 22 PREGAME: The Hoosiers have a chance both win back to back conference games and sweep a Big Ten opponent for the first time this year when they head to Ann Arbor, MI., today. The prior match up came down to a missed layup at the buzzer, and the Hoosiers have struggled away from home, so this could be a tough win for the women. Michigan (10-8, 2-6) has only beat Indiana(11-8, 4-4) 16 times, out of the 59 times the two teams have played. Also of interest, Head Coach Felisha Legette-Jack is currently one win away from her 70th win at India JAMIE BRAUN'S RECORD BOOK STATUS: 1 point away from 9th place in scoring, currently has 1,450 4 assists from 6th place in assists, currently with 343 5 steals from 5th place in steals, currently with 205

Iowa without its second-leading scorer

The Hoosiers were favorites coming into this contest, but the absence of the Hawkeyes' second-leading scorer Anthony Tucker might have increased expectations for IU. Tucker has not played with the team in nearly a month and has been suspended since Dec.

What to watch today: Saffold in East-West Shrine Game

At 3 p.m. today, IU left tackle Roger Saffold will try to impress NFL scouts in the 85th East-West Shrine game on ESPN2. Saffold will play for Romeo Crennel on the East team. The senior played and started in all 12 games last season, anchoring a line that allowed 16 sacks all season, second-best in the Big Ten.

Update from Happy Valley

An excerpt from my wrap of Thursday's 67-61 win on the road against Penn State: The 67-61 win was not only coach Tom Crean's first conference victory outside of Assembly Hall, it was the first time in five meetings - including three times last year - IU beat Penn State. The Nittany Lions (8-10, 0-6) never led during the game and it was the first time in their conference schedule that the Hoosiers (9-9, 3-3) did not relinquish the lead.

Hoosiers stave off Northwestern, win 61-55

The IU women's basketball team held off a second-half run by Northwestern to win 61-55 Thursday in Assembly Hall. Despite shooting at a modest 34.4 field goal percentage while the Wildcats (12-7, 3-5) didn't do much better at 37.9 percent, the Hoosiers (11-8, 4-4) made shots when they needed them and played tough off the boards, pulling down 16 offensive rebounds. Senior guard Jamie Braun led IU in scoring with 18 points and collected four offensive rebounds.

Former top football recruit to visit IU again

According to Mike Dyer of the Cincinnati Enquirer, former top IU football recruit Jibreel Black will be back in Bloomington. A four-star defensive end from Wyoming High School (OH), Black originally committed to the Hoosiers but recently switched to Cincinnati.

Riders, mount your bikes

Welcome to another year of the Indiana Daily Student's coverage of Little 500. This year we are much like the teams that spend time mounted on their bikes, turning circles around Bill Armstrong Stadium's track.

IU taking for the road again

Anyone following the Hoosiers know the road has not been kind to them. Since IU is taking for Penn State, here are a couple stats showing the home-away production of IU in the Big Ten conference thus far. Don't be surprised if one side looks a lot better than the other. At Home Average points: 72.6 Average rebounds: 35 Average assists: 13 Number of fouls: 22.3 Total turnovers: 14 Blocked shots: 3.3 Away Average points: 49.5 Average rebounds: 32 Average assists: 9 Number of fouls: 22 Total turnovers: 21.5 Blocked shots: 1.5

Crean not overlooking Penn State

IU coach Tom Crean recognized that Penn State could easily be a winning team within the Big Ten. Acknowledging the three occasions on which IU lost to the Nittany Lions last season, he assured the press that Penn State is not afraid of his Hoosiers. IU is now 2-3 in conference, and it is eighth in the standings, before Northwestern, Iowa and Penn State. Regardless of the fact that they're doing better, Crean knows no one has yet to worry about what threats the Hoosiers might pose. "And they know they can beat us," he said.

What's the rush?

There have been several outlets commenting on whether IU fans should have rushed the court after the Hoosiers defeated Minnesota 81-78. Hoosiers were ripped by Michael Wilbon and former IDSer Eamonn Brennan, who also works for the World Wide Leader. Here's a link to the new IDS IU basketball Web site and a story with quotes from Verdell Jones and two IU students on the issue. http://idsnews.com/news/story.aspx?id=73033 A quick peek into what they said might make you want to read into it more. Verdell Jones: If the fans tried to do what they want, but I felt like it was a game that we didn't need to," Jones said, adding that he was a little surprised by the fans' decision. IU junior Ed Reardon: I think it shows our enthusiasm and pride in our basketball team.

IU Athletics allowing season ticket holders to select seats with new online system

A new online seating system will allow football and basketball season ticket holders to choose their own seats and see the view from chosen seats virtually, IU Athletics and the IU Varsity Club announced today. The new system will replace the old method using "Priority Points" or special seating requests through the Ticket Office. However, that is not to say the Priority Points system will not continue to play a role.
