As the FIFA World Cup continues into the quarterfinal stage of the tournament this weekend, former Indiana men’s soccer player Daniel Munie was honored for his club soccer contributions. The Hoosier was named to the Major League Soccer All-Star roster, per a Wednesday announcement from the league.

Munie has spent the last four seasons with the San Jose Earthquakes after graduating from Indiana in 2022. The defender has anchored the back line for the Earthquakes, who sit second in the Western Conference standings

Munie started in 14 of San Jose’s 15 matches this season, producing three goals — tied for a career high — and one assist in 1,260 minutes played.

The Maryland Heights, Missouri, native played in Bloomington from 2018 to 2022. As a redshirt senior, he captained the Hoosiers during the 2022 season to a national championship runner-up finish after losing to Syracuse University in penalty kicks.

Munie started in 71 of his 79 appearances for Indiana over his four playing seasons. Primarily playing center back, he recorded eight goals and five assists, while the Hoosiers held 41 clean sheets.

With his inclusion on the MLS All-Star team, Munie became the 11th former Indiana player to make the roster in program history. Former midfielder and defender Aidan Morris was the last Hoosier to accomplish the feat in 2023 after a stellar season with the Columbus Crew. Morris now plays in the EFL Championship for Middlesbrough.

The MLS All-Stars will face off against the Liga MX All-Stars during the 2026 MLS All-Star Game on July 29. The game will take place at Charlotte FC’s Bank of America Stadium in Charlotte, North Carolina, with an 8 p.m. kickoff on Apple TV.

Coming off a defeat to Saint Louis University in the second round of last season’s NCAA Tournament, Indiana will begin its quest for a ninth national championship next season. The Hoosiers’ regular season schedule begins with an in-state showdown with the University of Notre Dame on Aug. 20 at Bill Armstrong Stadium in Bloomington.
