This weekend, Indiana field hockey will travel to Louisville, Kentucky, for a doubleheader against two teams the Hoosiers faced last season. Indiana will open the weekend against Miami University on Saturday before facing the University of Louisville on Sunday.
Last season, Indiana lost games against each opponent. The Hoosiers fell to Louisville 5-4 in Bloomington before losing 3-2 to Miami in Oxford, Ohio.
Miami enters the season ranked No. 10 in the country, giving Indiana a difficult test to open the regular season. The two teams already met this year in an exhibition game on Aug. 14, when Miami came away with a 1-0 victory in Bloomington.
The regular-season matchup will give the Hoosiers another opportunity against the RedHawks. Three Miami players scored in last season's matchup, with sophomore midfielder Justina Intzes being the lone returner from that bunch.
Last season, the RedHawks went 16-5 and won their eighth consecutive Mid-American Conference regular-season title, while advancing to the NCAA Tournament quarterfinals.
In this year’s exhibition against Miami, Indiana held a 10-4 advantage in penalty corners but failed to convert any of its opportunities. Indiana field hockey head coach Kayla Bashore said corner execution will be crucial when the teams meet again.
“Corner execution, that's something that wins games,” Bashore said in an interview with the Indiana Daily Student on Thursday. “That's something that it can come down to in terms of wins and losses in a game, kind of getting going one direction or another.”
Against Louisville last season, four different Hoosiers contributed goals in the 5-4 loss, including junior forward/midfielder Charlotte Glasper, sophomore forward/midfielder Molly Stutte, forward/midfielder Anna Mozeleski and senior midfielder Inés García Prado. Mozeleski has since graduated.
Louisville also had five different players find the back of the cage. Three of those five players return for the Cardinals in 2026: senior back Annabel Sep, senior forward Gigi Edwards and senior midfielder Aubreigh Uba. Sep returns after earning All-ACC Second Team and NFHCA All-West Region Second Team honors in 2025.
With two difficult opponents on the schedule, Bashore said Indiana will measure its performance by more than the final scores. The Hoosiers will focus on creating opportunities offensively while limiting them defensively.
“A good weekend would be, how are we, in those areas, measuring up?” Bashore said.
Indiana will face Miami at 1 p.m. Saturday before taking on Louisville at 2 p.m. Sunday at Trager Stadium in Louisville. The Miami game will be streamed on ESPN+ and the Louisville game on ACCNX.
