Local music this week: Head boppin’ through November

November music events are in full swing! Here is everything you need to know about the Bloomington music scene this weekend.

18+ activities

WIUX, IU’s student radio station, will host “Battle of the Bands” at 7 p.m. Thursday at The Orbit Room. Six bands will battle for the chance to open Culture Shock, the radio’s annual music festival in the spring. There is a $10 entry to watch the battle, and it costs $1 per vote to determine the winner.  

Local bands FB0MB!, The BMV and Bug Eat Bug will perform at 7:30 p.m. Friday at The Arcadia, located at 317 E. 15th St. Local jewelry and art vendors Planet Grim, Serena Fox and Oddly Todd will join them for what’s sure to be a rockin’ night. Cover for this show costs $10.  

Wayne Deaton will perform at 5:30 p.m. Friday on The Vault Pub’s stage at the Indiana Memorial Union. Deaton covers all types of musical genres and performs covers of songs as well as his own. Admission to this show is free! 

The Arcadia will host for the second night in a row at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday. Emily Spinach, Please Her and SYZYGY will grace the stage for a night full of good music. Cover for this show is $7.  

The Reef, located at 313 N. Overhill Drive, is bringing in three out-of-town psychedelic bands and one local psychedelic band for a kaleidoscopic show at 7 p.m. Saturday. Non-local bands Brood X, Doom Gong and Moon Goons are joined by local band Discount Enlightenment (formerly known as Current Entertainment.) Cover costs $7. 

21+ activities 

Caley Conway, an indie pop style singer-songwriter from Wisconsin, will perform at 7 p.m. Thursday at Blockhouse Bar. Admission to her show costs $7.  

Booze Cruise, a variety cover band based in Bloomington, will headline at Bluebird Nightclub for the first time at 10 p.m. Thursday. Tickets cost $5.   

The Orbit Room is bringing in The Vulgar Boatmen, a roots-pop band who released their first album in back in 1989, at 8 p.m. Friday. Tickets cost $11.  

Rod Tuffcurls and The Bench Press, a four man cover band from Chicago, will perform at 9 p.m. Friday at Bluebird Nightclub. Tickets for their show cost $15.  

Out-of-town indie-persuaded performers Westhead, His His and Jonathan Patrick will perform at 7 p.m. Saturday at The Orbit Room. Tickets for this event cost $11.  

Hank Ruff, a country artist and a recent graduate from Indiana University, will take the stage at 9 p.m. Saturday at Bluebird Nightclub. Tickets cost $10.
