U.S. News & World Report released its 2027 college rankings Tuesday, and the Indiana University Kelley School of Business Undergraduate Program is now ranked sixth among all business schools, its highest ranking yet.
The IU Bloomington campus maintained its spot at No. 73 out of over 400 in the national university category but moved up two spots in the public schools category to No. 32.
According to U.S. News, the rankings are based on several factors, including peer-assessment, graduation rates and first-year retention rates. U.S. News analyzes data from surveys, government data and Elsevier, a global academic publishing company.
This year, U.S. News introduced a new “Earnings by Major” ranking factor that evaluates earnings four years-post graduation. This new benchmark addresses growing public concerns regarding higher education affordability and long-term value. The “Earnings by Major” metric replaced the “Graduate Indebtedness” factor, for which U.S. News said underlying federal data had not been updated for several years.
Due to these methodology changes, U.S. News said the 2027 rankings cannot be directly compared to previous years.
Kelley is tied for sixth place in business programs with Carnegie Mellon University, Cornell University, University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and The University of Texas at Austin.
Kelley remains ranked as the top school in Indiana and third among schools at public universities. Kelley’s Undergraduate Program has been ranked in U.S. News’ top 10 for the last six years.
“This move in the rankings from No. 8 to No. 6 is a powerful validation of the work our faculty, staff, and global partners pour into every part of the Kelley experience,” Kelley dean Patrick E. Hopkins said in a press release. "We’re especially grateful to see that commitment reflected not only at the program level, but also in top-10 rankings of eight of the 10 business disciplines ranked by U.S. News as among the best in the nation.”
Ten specialty programs at Kelley also ranked in the top 15, while eight specialty programs were ranked in the top 10, including marketing, accounting and management and information systems.
