The University Players will conduct their annual dance show SLIP, or student-led independent project, on March 31 to April 2 at the Lee Norvelle Theatre and Drama Center.

There will be an open dress rehearsal in which audiences can watch performers make final adjustments to their dances at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday before opening night at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Additional shows will be at 11 p.m. on Friday and at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday.

The show allows all students, not just dance majors, to present a choreographed piece of their own design in a performance space with the technical support of the University Players.

Katelyn Connor, University Players director of choreography and movement, said this is a great opportunity for any IU students who have a passion for dance regardless of their major. It is also a great opportunity to gain performance experience and work with the more technical side of presenting a dance piece.

“When you present an opportunity like this to people,” Connor said. “The people who are really interested, who love dance, want to make something and want to just take advantage, will show up to do what they love and share that with audiences.”

With 13 dance performances this year, Connor said she is excited for audiences to see what the performers have been working on.

“There's a good variety in terms of the personality of the pieces,” Connor said. “There will be opportunities for the audience to laugh as well as opportunities for the audience to feel a deep emotional connection to the pieces.”

Tickets are free and can be purchased through the University Players’ website.
