This summer was filled with some of the largest-grossing and most popular films of the year, and that means big movie premieres! Just like awards season or the Met Gala, celebrities always dress to impress on these movie red carpets, embracing the themes of their film. Seeing these celebrities collaborating with stylists and labels to create an on-theme wardrobe always makes me appreciate the art of fashion. Here are just a few celebrity appearances that stood out this summer:
Emily Blunt — “The Devil Wears Prada 2”
As a whole, the outfits from the cast for “The Devil Wears Prada 2” didn’t impress me at the April world premiere in New York City. However, Emily Blunt stole the red carpet with a Schiaparelli gown from the designer’s 2026 spring collection.
This collection heavily featured feathered designs, with Blunt’s gown’s corset featuring over 25,000 silk feathers. The large, tiered tulle skirt billowed out around her, giving her show-stopping presence on the red carpet.
The jewelry chosen to complement the gown was from the collection of Mikimoto’s Les Pétales Place Vendôme Rosés, which heavily featured pearls. The jewelry included pearl bracelets, earrings, a choker and several large rings — tying the ivory look together quite nicely.
A look from April’s New York City premiere of perhaps my favorite film of the summer is Janelle Monáe’s ABODI Transylvania Tündér Ilona outfit from the label’s new collection of wearable art. The label describes these pieces as not only clothing, but also live sculptural works that are a gray area between fashion and art installments.
Complete with a Tudor-style choker and a Vampire Castle bag, Monáe certainly fit the aesthetic of the dark epic of “Is God Is.” She proves that even with a small part, you can make quite an impact on the red carpet.
Zendaya and Tom Holland — “Spider-Man: Brand New Day”
As the current Hollywood “it couple,” of course Zendaya and Tom Holland both look incredible on the July red carpet of the Los Angeles premiere for “Spider-Man: Brand New Day.”
Holland wore a custom Jacquemus suit in the color of crimson— reminiscent of Spider-Man’s iconic suit. I especially love the bright red shirt peeking out of the collar and sleeves of the coat, giving the illusion he was wearing the superhero’s outfit underneath. Although I usually detest a suit for fashion statements since they’re normally boring, Holland pulls this look off simply by utilizing a unique color and sticking to the theme of the film.
Zendaya is always glamorous and on-theme when it comes to Spider-Man premieres, like when she wore a custom Valentino gown covered in spider-web patterns for the “Spider-Man: Now Way Home” premiere. This event was no different; she wore a black Ashi Studio gown from its Fall 2026 collection. The dress has protruding spines coming from the bodice. This, combined with her slicked hair and smokey-eye makeup, completed a rather arachnid look, fitting for anyone in “Spider-Man: Brand New Day.”
Lupita Nyong’o — “The Odyssey”
Lupita Nyong’o had many exquisite outfits throughout the multiple premieres and press tours for “The Odyssey,” like a sheer silver gown by Christian Cowan and a custom feathered coat by LaPointe. However, I think her best look came in July from the New York City premiere of the film.
Nyong’o wore a gold lace strapless dress from Nicholas Oakwell Couture’s spring 2026 collection fittingly titled “Goddess.” The gown brilliantly highlights her regal and beautiful role as Helen of Troy in the film. However, the standout piece of the outfit is the Sabyasachi necklace: a golden choker adorned with diamonds, hundreds of pearls and a golden Bengal tiger.
I’m excited to see the premieres for many anticipated films this fall like “The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping” and “Dune: Part Three.” I think actors who dress fashionably and on theme always make the premieres far more enjoyable.
