Women's soccer beats Butler on late goal

A late goal by freshman forward Orianica Velasquez-Herrera was all the No. 22 Hoosiers needed to ensure a 1-0 victory over Butler (3-5) on Wednesday night. The win pushed IU to 7-1 in non-conference play, the best start in the history of IU women’s soccer.

In Butler match, IU to face ex-Hoosier

IU upsets of No. 6 Florida, wins comeback against Mercer

The IU women’s soccer team upset No. 6 Florida on Friday in a double-overtime thriller. They then traveled to Macon, Ga., on Sunday, where they overcame a 1-0 deficit at halftime against Mercer to defeat the Bears 2-1. The team is now 5-0 on the season.

The IU women’s soccer team will return home this weekend, enjoying the comforts of Bloomington for the first time since Sept. 28. The Hoosiers (5-10-0, 0-6) have been on the road the last four games, narrowly losing each game by a one-goal deficit. “I think the kids are going to be excited to get back on their pitch,” IU coach Mick Lyon said. “You know, with short, fast grass, instead of this thick, mush stuff they have up north, that’s definitely going to be to our benefit.”

No rest for weary Hoosiers

The mood this week at women’s soccer practice was shockingly upbeat. Last Sunday, the Hoosiers (2-3) were outplayed in the finale of the Hoosier Classic and were defeated 3-1 by underdog Cal Poly. The loss placed the Hoosiers in a disappointing third for the tournament.
