Indiana University placed fraternity Delta Tau Delta on cease and desist Thursday citing hazing as the reason. The decision comes one day after fraternity Theta Chi was placed on cease and desist for the same reason, according to the Office of Student Life.
The investigation is ongoing, according to IU spokesperson Mark Bode. In an email to the Indiana Daily Student, Bode wrote organizations placed on cease and desist are not allowed to host, attend or participate in things like social, philanthropic or recruitment events.
“Cease and Desist directives are placed when there are allegations of behavior that have caused or may cause harm to the members of the organization and/or the community,” Bode wrote.
Organizations are placed on cease and desist as an interim status during immediate threats or ongoing investigations.
Delta Tau Delta was the second student organization placed on cease and desist this week, after IU placed Theta Chi on cease and desist Wednesday also for alleged hazing.
Delta Tau Delta entered into a voluntary agreement with the university from Oct. 27 to Dec. 8, 2025, to resolve a matter regarding alcohol and risk management. The voluntary agreement came almost three years after Delta Tau Delta was suspended by IU.
From April 4, 2017, to April 3, 2022, Delta Tau Delta was suspended by the university for allegedly endangering others, alcohol and hazing. When an organization is suspended, it must cease and desist all activities and disband.
