On Aug. 19, the IU Board of Trustees approved construction of a new baseball and softball complex to be built north of the Indiana Tennis Center and Mellencamp Pavilion. Ground is scheduled to be broken in spring 2012. The stadiums should be ready for the 2013 season.

Men’s soccer travels to South Bend for opener

The No. 17 IU men’s soccer team will open their season at 7:30 p.m. Saturday in South Bend with renewed expectations. They’ll take on No. 12 Notre Dame in the team’s first season opener on the road since 2006.

Healthy Hoosiers to play first game at home field

The Hoosiers open against Miami (OH) at 4 p.m. Friday at the IU Field Hockey Complex and finish their opening weekend against No. 15 Duke at 1 p.m. Sunday. It’s the first match between Duke and IU.

Volleyball looks to build off Sweet 16 in 2011

The IU women’s volleyball team is coming off its best season in program history, in which they advanced to a Sweet 16 appearance in last year’s NCAA tournament. However, IU Coach Sherry Dunbar recognizes last year will not have any direct affect on the team’s record this season.

Fees raise $1.7 million for IU

At $55 apiece for more than 35,000 applicants, the IU Office of Admissions should bring in approximately $1,925,000 in application fees each year. After fee waivers, the actual amount surpasses $1.7 million.

IU has 21 graduate student organizations for the more than 10,000 post-undergraduate student population. Graduate students say the organizations are one way for graduate students from all fields of study to get involved.

IU names 18 new Wells Scholars

The University inducted 17 incoming freshmen and one IU junior to the Herman B Wells Scholars Program, placing them among some 460 current scholars and alumni. The program was founded two decades ago in honor of former IU President and Chancellor Herman B Wells.
