New students to serve community Saturday

First-year students have the opportunity to give back to the Bloomington community during Welcome Week.

At New Student Service Day, student volunteers will be grouped and sent off-campus to service sites such as the Harmony School, Middle Way House and Bloomington Parks and Recreation.

What you’ll do

Volunteers will attend the individual needs of each service site. Previous New Student Service Day workers have painted, gardened, worked construction projects and picked up trash.

Why get involved

“It’s important to have an awareness of the services and organizations in the community around you,” said Bob Rathbun, coordinator of New Student Service Day. “It’s also an opportunity to make connections with friends and student leaders.”

Don’t forget

Wear closed-toed shoes and clothing you don’t mind getting dirty.
