Behind 15 points at halftime to Michigan State (20-10, 11-5), the IU women’s basketball team (6-24, 1-15) faced an uphill battle heading into the second half Thursday night at Bankers Life Fieldhouse in the first round of the Big Ten tournament.

After an exhibition with the Calgary Renegades at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Indiana will face one-win Colorado State at 2:30 p.m. The Hoosiers will finish the weekend with a contest against 5-6 California State East Bay at 9 a.m. Sunday.

Is the third time the charm for IU women’s basketball?
Tom Crean was shorter than expected. That is what surprised senior forward Tom Pritchard the most on his first day at IU. Not the scandal that rocked the foundations of Indiana basketball to spawn an unprecedented rebuilding project. Not that the squad he would be playing on was bringing back a combined average of just 12.8 minutes and 1.6 points per game from the prior season in Kyle Taber and Brett Finklemeier.
This past week in this space, I wrote about how welcome and refreshing the start of baseball season is this year, and I stand by that.
Its record ratio has stayed the same moving from 2-2 to 7-7, but the IU softball team has morphed into a different team since the beginning of the season.
