Indiana football’s home-and-home series against Notre Dame University, scheduled for 2030-31, has been canceled. The Athletics’ Pete Sampson was the first to report the news Monday.
The decision comes following Monday’s announcement of a renewed four-year rivalry series between Notre Dame and USC, which is slated to begin Week 1 of the 2030 season. Indiana’s home-and-home series was originally set to kick off that same weekend in South Bend, Indiana, creating a scheduling conflict.
The series between Indiana and Notre Dame was contracted in 2021 under former head coaches Tom Allen and Brian Kelly. The cancellation aligns with Indiana’s recent non-conference scheduling approach under head coach Curt Cignetti. Since taking over the program, Cignetti has favored a lighter non-conference slate. Indiana now has zero Power Four non-conference opponents on its future schedule.
Indiana and Notre Dame most recently met in the 2024 College Football Playoff. The Fighting Irish defeated the Hoosiers 27-17 in the NCAA’s first on-campus playoff game. But the two programs have not met in the regular season since Sept. 7, 1991, when Indiana lost 49-27. The Hoosiers have not defeated the Fighting Irish since 1950, holding a 5-24-1 all-time record in the matchup.
