No. 19 IU earns second win of season over Illinois

The No. 19 IU men's track and field team earned its second indoor win of the season on Saturday as they defeated host Illinois, Missouri and Eastern Illinois. IU scored 180.5 points to defeat its nearest competitor, Illinois, who had 142. Missouri finished third with 135.5 points, and Eastern Illinois had 79.

Despite hard fight, team drops contest

The IU women's basketball team lost to No. 14 Penn State 69-55 in State College, Pa. on Sunday in front of the third largest crowd ever at the Bryce Jordan Center.

AFC thrashes NFC in ProBowl HONOLULU -- Ricky Williams' first trip to the Pro Bowl was worth the wait. The Miami Dolphins' star running back rushed for 56 yards, scored two touchdowns and forced a fumble on special teams to earn the MVP award in the AFC's 45-20 victory over the NFC on Sunday.

Strong performances bolster win

The IU women's track and field team came up with several impressive performances in Champaign, Ill., this Saturday in their win against the Illini, Missouri and Eastern Illinois. IU won the meet with 178 points. Illinois, Missouri and Eastern Illinois had 156, 154 and 54 points respectively.

Cardinals turn slow start into anguish for IU

LOUISVILLE, Ky. -- Eight minutes of anguish. That was the feeling for the IU men's basketball team and their fans after the No. 19 Hoosiers let a lead as large as 16 points dwindle to zero as IU gave into the No. 8 Louisville pressure in the second half. The Hoosiers lost the lead, their shot and, for the second time that week, the game. Louisville won 95-76.

Wrestling loses to OSU

IU takes title shot

The road to a regular season Great Midwest Hockey League championship will be an uphill one for IU, but the Hoosiers are ready to climb it. IU (12-7-1, 2-3-1 GMHL) will begin the home stretch of the GMHL season this weekend with a pair of road games against Ferris State University and Michigan State University.

Striving to stay perfect

After stunning both Notre Dame and Middle Tennessee State this past weekend, the men's tennis team's confidence level must be high. "We knew we had a very good chance of beating them," sophomore Ryan Recht said of the team's matches against Notre Dame and Middle Tennessee State. "We went in with the intention of winning."

Coach looking to rebuild tradition

A team that once won six National Championships and 23 Big Ten titles only finished 32nd overall in last year's NCAA's. But that has not discouraged first year IU men's swimming coach Ray Looze in the least. Looze accepted the job looking ahead to the future of the program.

Sprinter off to a fast start

Track team heads to Illinois

Saturday the No. 19 men's track and field team travels to Illinois for their third dual meet in as many weeks. The team cruised to victory in their first meet at Michigan but fell to No. 13 Purdue and Ohio State last weekend. Coach Marshall Goss said he expects a challenge similar to last weekend. Though unranked, he said Illinois is still a dangerous team.

IU drops road contest at Iowa

After a week of good practices, the women's basketball team was still unable to pull off a win at Iowa. They lost the game 78-62 and are left with the record of 9-9, 2-6 in the Big Ten. The Iowa Hawkeyes improve to 11-7 (3-4).

Thursday's practice for the IU men's basketball team was not lacking intensity. Loud vocals from both the players and the coaches could be heard throughout the two-hour practice. And there was enough emotional static in the air that there was almost a fight between two players.

Team looks to end skid

Michigan State, Michigan and Wisconsin are the three teams that have stopped the Hoosiers from winning their last four games. The Hoosiers (9-8, 2-5) will try to end that streak as they look for their first Big Ten road win of the season against the Iowa Hawkeyes (10-7, 2-4) at 7 p.m. tonight in Iowa City. It's a game that could set the tone for the rest of IU's season. There's a lot to learn with so many young players, senior forward Lisa Eckart said, but the team isn't walking away from any losses without learning a lesson. "I think we've learned from each of our losses," Eckart said. "We're preparing as much as we can for each game we play from here on out."

Wrestlers face road tests

The IU wrestling squad started the Big Ten season on the wrong foot. Penn State came to Bloomington last Friday and overpowered an injury-depleted Hoosier squad 37-4. But the next day, the Hoosiers went to Indianapolis and swept a four-team dual meet. This three-meet winning streak should provide the Hoosiers a morale boost going into meets against No. 3 Ohio State tonight and No. 10 Michigan Friday.

Surprise team tops Big Ten

With the Big Ten season quickly approaching the halfway mark, here is a rundown of some of the conference's top stories so far. The Michigan Wolverines have seen their share of drama this year. The Iowa Hawkeyes also jumped out to a surprising start, beginning the season 10-3. While most coaches will say that experienced players are the key to a successful team, it doesn't hurt to have ultra-talented freshman either.
