IU hits road in search of first conference victory

·

The Hoosiers (23-23, 0-6) have been looking to snap their five-game losing streak for almost a week now. When their game Tuesday against the Evansville Aces was canceled, they had to look ahead to this weekend to get the bad taste out of their mouths. IU starts another Big Ten road trip Friday when it travels to Madison to take on Wisconsin (23-19, 3-5).

IU awaits Golden Gophers, Hawkeyes in home matches

·

When the No. 56 Hoosiers (10-8, 4-2) hit the courts this weekend, they'll be facing polar opposites, as they'll put their three-match winning streak on the line against Minnesota at noon Saturday and Iowa at noon Sunday.

Hoosiers attempt to find consistency, wins

·

With a full week to prepare for Iowa, the Hoosiers have been working hard to overcome their recent struggles in conference play. Since IU (19-12, 3-5) has begun Big Ten action, the team has been plagued by errors and stranding runners on base. This weekend, the Hoosiers will get a chance to redeem themselves when they meet the Iowa Hawkeyes (8-19, 1-7 Big Ten) for a three-game series.

Ready, set, go: 2nd Little Fifty takes off

·

When people think of Little 500 week, thoughts of bicycles zooming around a track with spectators cheering pop into minds. The famed race caps off a wild week here at IU. However, a 12.5-mile foot race is what kicks off all the weekend festivities.

One final test before race

·

For weeks, months and in some cases, years, Little 500 riders have been working as one to form the perfect team. They train together, ride together and some even live together. As the teams take the track next weekend, the unity and strength they've been building will be tested, but before the race, there is one final test of rider ability: Team Pursuit. The final of the Little 500 spring series events -- Team Pursuit -- will begin tonight at Bill Armstrong Stadium. The event is the most team-oriented of the series events, and tests pack riding and a team's overall ability.

In only his seventh year at the helm of the Hoosier water polo program, IU coach Barry King has taken leaps and bounds with each passing year as he continues to move his teams to the top of the national rankings.

Loring becomes first coach in NCAA to win 600 games

·

If Tony Kornheiser, host of ESPN's "Pardon the Interruption," were to make a list of the top college tennis programs in the country, IU would certainly be listed among those on top of his "food chain." But if he were to list the coaches with 600 or more wins, Lin Loring would be it. 'That's it. That's the list,' Kornheiser would say. And yet even at his own University, a place where he has worked for more than 20 years, he goes relatively unknown outside the tennis world.

Bonds away!

·

Six hundred sixty one and counting. Like Barry Bonds or not, 661 home runs is still quite a remarkable feat, making him third all-time on the homerun list. I can't think of anything I've done worth remembering 661 times -- well, maybe there are two things (get imaginative, I ain't getting fired for the sake of a joke).

Baseball game cancelled

·

The baseball game between IU and Wright State scheduled for today has been canceled because of the possibility of rain in Dayton, Ohio. There has been no makeup date set so far.

A Phil-y tale ending

·

I can't shoot under 100. I can't drive the ball straight. I can't putt on level greens. I can't differentiate my irons -- heck, I can't even be a member at some golf clubs. I don't wear golf shoes. I don't own my own clubs. I don't even know how to comprehend a handicap, let alone read a green -- heck, I couldn't find the next tee with a map and a compass.

IU looks to end losing streak

·

Through the first six games in the Big Ten schedule, IU has yet to defeat a conference opponent. After promising performances against tough non-conference foes such as Nebraska and Harvard, the Hoosiers' (23-23, 0-6) start to the Big Ten season is certainly upsetting.

Czech Republic native leading Hoosiers at No. 1 spot

·

It started for junior Jakub Praibis when he was four years old, hitting a ball against the wall. By age seven, he was on the court. Now, the 21-year-old native of Litomerice, Czech Republic, has emerged as one of the nation's best tennis players, leading the No. 68 Hoosiers (10-8, 4-2). Praibis, in his second year playing No. 1 singles for IU, has compiled a record of 12-5 this season, including five victories over ranked players. Praibis' career record at IU is 42-20.
