IU ready to push into Big Tens

With only one week to go before postseason play beings, the IU men's golf team knows there is a lot of work to be done to complete a successful season. "Right now we are in a race for an NCAA berth," said IU coach Mike Mayer. "We need to really find ourselves and come together this weekend."

IU looks for NCAA tourney berth

One team will advance this weekend to the Collegiate Water Polo Association Eastern Conference Championship. Seven will see their seasons come to an end. The eight teams will compete in Bloomington at the Counsilman-Billingsley Aquatic Center this weekend, where the No. 10 Hoosiers are the top seed, for the chance to advance to the NCAA tournament May 13-15.

Indiana House calls for single-class tournament INDIANAPOLIS --The Indiana House passed a resolution Thursday asking the Indiana High School Athletic Association to create a new single-class state basketball tournament. "I think the public really wants this," said Republican Rep. Larry Buell of Indianapolis, the resolution's sponsor.

Rough Waters Ahead

Glistening arms stretched to the oars will bend and churn the water into foam in epic splendor when seven schools -- six of them nationally ranked -- compete for the Big Ten Championship Saturday on Bloomington's Lake Lemon. IU, the unranked entry, will play host to the regatta.

IU players sign with NFL teams

Throughout Saturday and Sunday more than 250 players saw their professional football dreams come true as they were selected in the NFL Draft. Though only one Hoosier was selected in that process, four other IU players now have a chance at professional careers.

'Major Taylor' accused of recruiting violations

Three former riders of the Team Major Taylor Little 500 cycling team are accusing the president of The Major Taylor Foundation of illegal recruiting practices, which prompted a University investigation late last year.

IU belts out 16 runs in victory

IU coach Bob Morgan spoke to his team Tuesday afternoon and stressed the importance of the 16 games remaining in the season. After inclement weather postponed the Hoosiers' match-up with Marian College Tuesday, IU faced the IU-Southeast Grenadiers Wednesday afternoon.

4-by-1 mile squad expected to lead Hoosier effort

Most of the time, the focus of outdoor track and field is on individual performances and championships. April, however, serves as relay season. The month starts with meets like the Texas, Florida and Kansas Relays and finishes in grand fashion. The nation's top talent splits to Pennsylvania or Iowa, the sites of the Penn Relays and Drake Relays.

High-seeded Hoosiers head to Big Tens

Three months ago, the IU men's tennis team planned on a top Big Ten finish. Tomorrow, at the Big Ten Championships in Champaign, Ill., the Hoosiers will get their last chance to fulfill those expectations and take home the conference crown.

Detroit leads series 2-0 with 99-84 win over 76ers AUBURN HILLS, Mich. -- Technical fouls make some players timid, fearing an ejection. They fire up Rasheed Wallace. Sparked by a technical, Wallace scored 11 of 15 points in the third quarter to lift the Detroit Pistons to a 99-84 victory over Philadelphia on Tuesday, and a 2-0 lead in their first-round series.

Alex Rodriguez explodes from slump, hits 3 home runs in win

NEW YORK -- Alex Rodriguez hit three home runs in his first three at-bats and had a career-high 10 RBIs Tuesday night in the New York Yankees' 12-4 win over the Los Angeles Angels. Rodriguez hit the 11th grand slam of his career in the fourth inning after hitting a three-run shot in the first and a two-run homer in the third, all two-out drives off Bartolo Colon. His grand slam gave New York a 10-2 lead.

Junior college standout joining the Hoosier lineup

Georgia Perimeter College guard Earl Calloway will have to get used to playing in front of a few more people next year. IU head coach Mike Davis expanded the 2005 recruiting class to three on Monday, announcing the signing of the junior point guard. Calloway will join 6-10 Australian center Ben Allen and 6-5 forward Joey Shaw of Arizona.

Junior pitcher no-hits Purple Aces in 5-0 win

After 10 straight losses, the IU women's softball team needed a boost and got it out of junior pitcher Mariangee Bogado in a no-hit shutout win against Evansville 5-0 Tuesday night. The no-hitter was the first for Bogado in her college career. On the night, she struck out eight in seven innings of work.

Miller clinches game 2 for Pacers

BOSTON -- Reggie Miller still had a big shot left in his 39-year-old body. Miller hit a 13-footer for Indiana's last basket, capping his 28-point game and leading the Pacers to an 82-79 win over the Boston Celtics that tied their playoff series at one game each Monday night.

Titans nab Roby in draft

After sitting in front of a television for more than seven hours Saturday afternoon, a lifetime's dream became a reality for former IU wide receiver Courtney Roby, who was selected 68th overall in the NFL Draft by the Tennessee Titans. "I was excited," Roby said. "It is definitely a dream come true. I'm just ready to get to work."

Senior sent out in perfect fashion

IU's women's tennis team sent senior Dominika Walterova out in perfect fashion. Literally everything went the way of the Hoosiers, both on and off the court. It started with a pair of victories: Friday's crucial 4-3 win against No. 41 Michigan and Sunday morning's 6-1 win over Michigan State. Most importantly though, they secured the second seed for next weekend's Big Ten tournament.
