Club sports coming up short

On Jan. 9 the IU Athletic Department announced that it would immediately begin charging $500 per week for the eight club sports teams that use the John Mellencamp Pavilion for their practices. The teams have shared use of the facility between 10 p.m. and 1 a.m. Monday through Thursday since Spring 2006, and until this month they had been able to do so free of charge.

I’m not exactly the world’s biggest feminist. It’s not that I don’t condone some forms of feminism; it’s just never been my bag. But when I picked up the February issue of Cosmopolitan Magazine, the self-proclaimed “#1 Women’s Magazin,” I became quite disappointed. My disappointment started as early as the cover.

Dungy to coach Colts in 2008

INDIANAPOLIS - Tony Dungy is sticking with the Colts. The team said Monday that Dungy will remain with Indianapolis through at least the 2008 season before turning over the coaching to hand-picked successor Jim Caldwell.

Police found IU junior Sarah Bachman dead in her apartment Monday night, Bloomington Police Department Sgt. Jeff Canada said, reading from a press release.

For 32 minutes Sunday afternoon, the Nittany Lions would not go away. Penn State's three-point shooting and their pesky zone defense kept the dynamic Hoosier offense in check for most of the contest. But in the end, it was not enough as the No. 9 Hoosiers prevailed, 81-65.

Former member of IU staff hired as Ravens' head coach

John Harbaugh was hired Friday as head coach of the Baltimore Ravens, who hope their second choice proves to be a first-rate success. Harbaugh joined IU's staff in 1997 as a defensive backs and special teams coach under former head coach Cam Cameron.

Birthday cheers could be heard echoing from Briscoe Quad Thursday night in celebration of Martin Luther King Jr. Briscoe Student Government and resident assistants hosted a birthday party to recognize the life and legacy of King. Monday will be the 40th anniversary honoring King and his work.
