Men, women equal in assessing romantic interest

A new speed-dating study shows men and women are equal when it comes to assessing each other’s romantic interests. Skyler Place, a doctoral student in the IU psychology and brain sciences department, along with cognitive science professor Peter Todd, published the study in the January issue of the Psychological Science journal. “Our goal was to see if observers of a date could predict romantic interest between others,” Place said.

Valentine’s day dance raises heart disease awareness

The theme is red, the attire semi-formal and dancing will surely ensue at the Phi Alpha Delta pre-law fraternity Valentine’s Day dance. Phi Alpha Delta will host its first Valentine’s day dance Friday in the Neal-Marshall Black Culture Center. All proceeds will be donated to the American Heart Association to raise awareness for their cause.     Since February is Heart Disease Awareness Month, Phi Alpha Delta wants to raise awareness for one of the top killers in America, said sophomore Elizabeth Zabel, member of Phi Alpha Delta. The American Heart Association has local chapters in Indiana and more awareness is needed on the topic, she said.

Greeks work to handle media at training session

Members of the greek community gathered Wednesday night for a Greek Media Training event, prepping them to handle media coverage during unexpected situations within their own houses. The IU chapter of the Public Relations Student Society of America co-sponsored the event with the IU Panhellenic Association and Interfraternity Council. Katie Wickham, PRSSA vice president and PHA vice president of communications, said about 100 leaders of the greek community and PRSSA members attended Wednesday’s event in the Frangipani Room in the Indiana Memorial Union.

The on-again, off-again rivalry that is IU and Illinois

“I think Indiana will suck. Don’t put that on the Internet.” Those words came from Illinois coach Bruce Weber at a fan function late last June. The utterance chucked tinder onto the barn fire that has been the IU-Illinois rivalry in recent years.



Hoosiers’ losing streak runs to 4 with OT defeat

Coming into Thursday night’s game against Michigan State, the Hoosiers were riding a season-high three-game losing streak. Unfortunately for IU, the streak was extended to four with an overtime loss.
