Greek council postpones social events

All greek social events have been postponed until further notice because of an incident at Phi Sigma Kappa. The Interfraternity Council wouldn't comment on the details of the incident.

Monday marks 25 year anniversary of MLK Day

Martin Luther King Jr. started his day at 7 a.m. with meetings over breakfast. In the late 1970s, a group of about 200 students, faculty and administrators at IU decided to have a similar tradition to honor King’s legacy around his birthday.

“Sicko” to show at Buskirk-Chumley

Wendell Potter is coming to Bloomington to speak of his experience and promote his new book, “Deadly Spin: An Insurance Company Insider Speaks Out on How Corporate PR Is Killing Health Care and Deceiving Americans.” Potter’s speech, sponsored by Hoosiers for a Commonsense Health Care Plan, will be 3 p.m. Sunday at the Buskirk-Chumley Theater.

The newly renovated wing of the Lee Norvelle Theater and Drama Center, simply dubbed Theatre West, has been nine years in the making and was officially presented to patrons and the Bloomington community at Thursday night’s ceremony.

In Daniels’ State of the State address Tuesday, the governor emphasized the need for education reform and urged legislatures to take advantage of the Republican majority in the Indiana General Assembly to push the initiative forward.

Ind. organic farming participation remains low

Farmers planning to grow organic this year can look to the government for start-up assistance. The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Natural Resources Conservation Service has set aside $50 million in the Environmental Quality Incentives Program to implement conservation measures and systems on organic farms.

If businesses join a new green business initiative, they may get to help the environment and their profit margins at the same time. The Greater Indianapolis Chamber of Commerce’s Green Business Initiative has convinced 77 businesses to commit to being eco-friendly.
