The Indiana University chapter of Phi Delta Theta fraternity was placed on the IU Office of Student Life’s interim directives list, effective April 24 until further notice, for “endangering others.”
Interim Investigation Directives are placed on parts of chapter operations when there is an ongoing investigation, according to the OSL. Phi Delta Theta is suspended from hosting, attending or participating in social events.
Despite being placed on the interim directives list, the team was still able to compete in the 2026 men’s Little 500 on April 25. An IU spokesperson said that being placed on the interim directives list does “not automatically impact an organization's ability to ride in the Little 500.”
Phi Delta Theta finished in 16th place out of 33 teams in the men’s Little 500 race.
Organizations on cease and desist are unable to participate in the Little 500. Alpha Kappa Lambda and Tau Epsilon Phi, which are currently under cease and desist, raced under the names LEGION and Avir Cycling, respectively.
There are no other organizations on interim directives. There are seven organizations on cease and desist, an interim measure when there is an immediate threat or ongoing investigation.
Phi Delta Theta was last disciplined in 2022. Effective July 20, 2022, to Dec. 15, 2022, the fraternity was placed on extended disciplinary probation for “dishonest conduct, endangering others, failure to comply with University and County, COVID-19 directives, hazing, alcohol, drugs, non-compliance with (Office of Sorority and Fraternity Life) Policies.”
Fraternities in the IU Interfraternity Council were barred from hosting social events in November after a string of alleged hazing events. Fraternities in good standing and not under investigation were able to resume social activities Dec. 1.
