Iraq volunteer to speak today

·

Cliff Kindy has seen firsthand the trials of the Iraqi people and will speak at 7 p.m. today at First United Church, 2420 E. Third St., about his experiences. Indiana Students Against War and the Bloomington Peace Action Coalition are sponsoring the event.

Inflation forces area delis, bakeries to raise prices

·

Bloomington businesses are raising their prices as food inflation reaches its highest in 17 years, according to the U.S. Department of Labor. To deal with the rising costs of wheat, milk and fruits, delis and bakeries are being forced to raise prices to maintain profits.

ABC's not lost

·

The Writers Guild of America strike is still screwing up our lives, even though it’s been over for two months and our favorite shows are almost all back. The strike might have cut “Lost” fans the deepest.

Consider Clearwater

Democratic voters in Indiana’s 9th congressional district should know that they have choices other than the incumbent Baron Hill when voting in the May 6 primary. One of these choices is the progressive Gretchen Clearwater.

New president needs experience, vision

“Hopes and Dreams” are nice to have and hold on to, but they will not solve the problems that American families and our country are facing today.

American Jesus

Mr. Rossing strikes out again on 4/17 in “Jesus Idol.”

Investigate for yourselves

In response to the article/debate about global warming I am going to have to say I disagree with some of its viewpoints.

Appreciative hoosier

I wanted to thank the people that rushed to my aid yesterday evening. I fell when walking across campus on Jordan near the MAC and broke my ankle.

End acts of hate

Little 500 and the week preceding it provided many reasons to celebrate, and thousands of people did so heartily. Most people, though, do not realize that early in the week when the weather was still sunny and warm, and anticipation of the “world’s greatest weekend” was at its strongest, there were members of our community who were targets of a hate crime.

Administration appears confused

I am disappointed to read that the IUB administration is not fully supportive of The First Nations Educational and Cultural Center. Apparently Native Americans, Native Hawaiians and Alaskan Natives have not been given full administrative support.

Obama is unifying, not 'frightening'

Of all the misguided, ignorant statements in Justin P. Hill’s April 21 article “The Pretender,” I was most disturbed by the author’s assertion that supporting abortion rights is inherently anti-Christian.

"Nuts and bolts" should come first

·

As a student at IU, I can’t help but notice the Obama bombardment on campus. What started with chalking led to posters and handouts, to free concerts and celebrities, and even a visit from the senator himself.

Criticism of China distorts reality

The barrage of criticism waged against China before the Olympics has increasingly intensified. However, the majority of the “human rights” allegations are fabricated and fail to consider relevant facts.

Together we can

·

Green is the new blue and red. I did a double take when I saw a commercial featuring Rev. Al Sharpton and Rev. Pat Robertson relaxing together on a couch on a beach. Recently, I paused for a similar commercial featuring Nancy Pelosi, the current Democratic Speaker of the House, and former Republican Speaker Newt Gingrich, smiling together on a couch in front of Capitol Hill.

What can we do?

·

George Stephanopoulos, respected national political reporter, defended his indefensible April 16 Democratic presidential debate moderating by suggesting that candidates should “expect” almost an hour of trivial and irresponsible hectoring from a political press bent on nabbing “gotcha!” moments. In so doing, Stephanopoulos demonstrates everything wrong with our nation’s journalism and everything we must fix.

Vote Obama

On May 6, for the first time in a long time, Indiana primary voters will go to the polls to meaningfully vote for a Democratic nominee for president. This choice is not an easy one, as it demands of Democrats a critical question: Should they embrace their past successes, symbolized by the Hillary Clinton campaign, or bet on future gains, as in the youth movement and excitement of Barack Obama?

In the Name of the King

'Toilet' Boll strikes again

·

In case you didn’t know, Uwe Boll is quite possibly the worst director to exist since, well, the creation of Hollywood. He is hated so much that there is now a petition online to get him to stop making movies

Kirkwood out, Big Red in

·

The IU Student Association Supreme Court disqualified the election-winning Kirkwood ticket from the 2008 IUSA Elections on Tuesday afternoon, giving way for the Big Red ticket to take office April 28. After 48 hours of deliberation, the IUSA Supreme Court found Kirkwood in violation of six election codes.
