Consider Clearwater

Democratic voters in Indiana’s 9th congressional district should know that they have choices other than the incumbent Baron Hill when voting in the May 6 primary. One of these choices is the progressive Gretchen Clearwater.\nMs. Clearwater would not have sent another $100 billion to fund the Bush administration’s occupation of Iraq. Baron Hill voted in support of sending this amount of taxpayer-supplied funds there. Ms. Clearwater would not have voted for the so-called “Protect America Act” which expands government surveillance powers – Baron Hill did vote for that. Ms. Clearwater has committed to co-sponsoring the Safe Climate Act, the only legislation that will decrease greenhouse gas emissions in a timely manner. Baron Hill has supported measures that will make a much, much slower impact on global warming, whose effects we are already experiencing. Gretchen Clearwater is an ordinary, middle-class person doing an extraordinary thing. She understands the need for a representative in Congress who will act on behalf of the everyday people of the 9th District, and is enthusiastically giving her time and energy to meet this need (while using a tiny fraction of the hundreds of thousands the Baron Hill campaign is spending.)
