Students raise funds for Haiti with buffet dinner

Students can still buy $10 tickets for a Haiti benefit dinner, which hopes to raise $5,000. The money will benefit Partners in Health, an organization that has been working in Haiti for more than 20 years to bring medical care to 12 countries worldwide, according to its Web site.

Women's swimming and diving set to defend Big Ten title

The IU women’s swimming and diving coaches gave each swimmer a T-shirt with a target on the back during this week’s practice. This is exactly what the No. 14 Hoosiers will have when they step foot in West Lafayette to defend their Big Ten title.

IU freshman Josh MacTaggart doesn’t overpower anyone on the tennis court. His serve is of average velocity compared to his Hoosier teammates, and he rarely surprises anyone with his strength. At first glance, he looks more like a runner or a swimmer than a tennis player.

Students express from the heart in spoken word poetry

“Spoken word is poetry, but it’s basically a song without music,” said IU alumnus Branden Scott. “Spoken word has more feeling. It’s like giving a speech. Poetry is reading from a book; it’s not emotional. Spoken word is a conversation meant to sway you.”

Ignore the idiots

There are some very stupid people in the world. Take, for instance, the missionaries who are currently being held in a Haitian jail for the attempted kidnapping of 33 children abandoned or orphaned in the wake of the earthquake. They claim they had the correct papers and had set up a place in the Dominican Republic to take the children until their relatives could be found or someone could adopt them.
