Students raise funds for Haiti with buffet dinner

Students can still buy $10 tickets for a Haiti benefit dinner, which hopes to raise $5,000.

The money will benefit Partners in Health, an organization that has been working in Haiti for more than 20 years to bring medical care to 12 countries worldwide, according to its Web site.

Tickets for the dinner can be bought at either La Casa Latino Cultural Center, Gay Lesbian Bisexual Transgender Student Support Services, the Asian Culture Center, the Neal-Marshall Black Culture Center or any of Bloomingfoods location.

The $10 ticket includes a buffet-style dinner of 10 to 15 different food venues such as Chipotle Mexican Grill and Noodles & Co. Live entertainment will accompany the evening.

Tickets can also be bought on campus from people such as freshman Philip Asamoah, who became involved through the Hutton Honors Council Association.

“Before the earthquake I didn’t have a lot of interest in Haiti,” he said. “But the Haiti forum, I went to that. It sparked my interest to get involved.”

Student organizations involved include the Black Graduate Student Association, the Hutton Honors Community Service Program, the Hutton Honors Council Association, the Kelley MBA Association and the Honors Student Organization.
