It's been one heck of a ride. This week marks our final one as arts editors at the IDS. The arts section has certainly seen a multitude of events this semester. From the opening of the new Theatre and Drama Center to the 30th anniversary of the IU Soul Revue, from the Cabaret Nouveau Series at the Bloomington Playwrights Project to three IU alumni performing in "Annie Get Your Gun" at the IU Auditorium, the arts section has been there.

House OKs accounting oversight bill

WASHINGTON -- The House on Wednesday adopted Enron-inspired legislation to tighten oversight of the accounting industry and toughen corporate disclosure rules. The vote was 334-90, with some Democrats accusing House Republican leaders of bowing to financial interests by passing a weak bill.

BETHLEHEM, West Bank -- Two Palestinians inside the Church of the Nativity compound were shot Wednesday and one of them died as Israeli and Palestinian negotiators gathered next door for a second round of talks to end the standoff at one of Christianity's holiest sites.

Feminist tackles drinking

March was Women's History Month; we celebrated the accomplishments of women from the past and encouraged today's women to be the confident and strong leaders of tomorrow. But April brings an abrupt end to the celebration, giving rise to concerns that we -- as feminists and a society in general -- are suffering a setback. The concern is over the reported behavior of campus coeds who choose to indulge in binge drinking.

She saw him from the second story window as she was reapplying her lipstick. She tapped the window with her fist and screamed: "No, don't do that." As soon as she noticed him touching her cherry red 1997 Jetta, she stumbled down the stairs. She sprinted through the crowd of curious bystanders and threw the door open. Dead week is always strange for me. The combination of a small break from class work and the impending doom of finals seems to really mess up the wiring in my brain. The results can be disastrous.

TERRE HAUTE -- Sentencing of a man described by authorities as one of west-central Indiana\'s largest makers of methamphetamine has been delayed because two educational videos he is making have not been completed. A plea agreement reached in March calls for Rodney Flora, 35, to plead guilty to six felony charges and receive a 10-year prison sentence.

INDIANAPOLIS -- Indiana Senate Republicans plan to present a tax-and-budget proposal on Thursday that would give Democratic Gov. Frank O'Bannon some new money to help shore up the budget deficit.

April salsa sales to fight child abuse

Throughout the month of April, the Tortilla Flat restaurant, 501 N. Walnut St., will be sponsoring "Salsa for CASA," a program in which portions of proceeds from the sale of Tortilla Flat's fresh salsa will be donated to the local Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA) program. This is to honor Child Abuse Prevention and Awareness Month.
