Two people were killed and three more were injured after a crash in Ellettsville on Thursday night.
The Ellettsville Police Department said in a press release that the crash occurred before 9 p.m. Thursday on West State Road 46 near North Cypress Lane, close to McDonald’s and Starbucks.
“Preliminary evidence suggests a westbound Chevrolet sedan crossed left of center into the eastbound lanes and collided head-on with a Jeep traveling in the opposite direction,” the release said.
The two occupants in the Chevrolet were killed, according to Ellettsville police, and three people in the Jeep were injured and brought to IU Health Bloomington Hospital. According to the press release, all three were in stable condition.
The police department is withholding the identities of the two killed as it notifies next of kin.
The Monroe County Major Crash Investigation Team responded, closing the highway for a few hours for reconstruction. The crash is under active investigation.
