Organizers say they need more teams for Relay for Life event

Relay for Life, the American Cancer Society's signature fundraising event, will hold its second meeting for teams and team captains to discuss the planning of the March event. The team captain and team development call-out meeting will be held at 8:30 p.m.

Wine-tasting benefit nets $2,700 for Riley Hospital

Amid dim lights and soft jazz at Tutto Bene, more than 200 people gathered to sample wine and, in turn, benefit Riley Hospital for Children of Indianapolis. The inaugural wine-tasting event held Thursday night was co-sponsored by the collegiate honor society, Mortar Board and IU Student Association Student Rights to raise money to buy toys for the patients at Riley.

Cold '19 Party' draws 1,600 prospective greek women

If the IU Health Center sees a surge in cases of the flu next week, it might look to this year's "19 Party." About 1,600 women spent most of the weekend trekking between IU's 19 different sorority houses in freezing weather for the first stage of women's recruitment.

Happy birthday, A.J. Ratliff. The beleaguered IU guard celebrated his 21st Saturday by pouring in 18 points -- 16 of which came in a first-half shooting flurry -- in a 74-57 IU win against the University of North Carolina at Charlotte Saturday night at Assembly Hall.

Gators, Buckeyes will play for title

Florida beat Michigan on Sunday in the only game that mattered. The Gators, who lobbied hard for this victory, were picked to play No. 1 Ohio State for college football's national championship, ending any chance for the Wolverines to get the rematch they so desired and thought they deserved.

'76 title ring sold off

An anonymous seller sold an NCAA championship ring -- from the Hoosiers' historic undefeated 1976 season -- for a whopping $50,100 on eBay at about 7:30 a.m. Sunday. Former Hoosier assistant coach Harold Andreas was the original owner of the ring.

Bears clinch division championship

CHICAGO -- Devin Hester ran into the record book again. Ricky Manning Jr. returned an interception for a touchdown, and the Chicago Bears claimed their second straight NFC North title.

Hoosiers finish 6th in Las Vegas

Top competition was on display as IU competed in the Cliff Keen Las Vegas Invitational on Friday and Saturday. The field boasted 49 teams, and IU coach Duane Goldman said this tournament was among the top two regular season events in the nation.

Everybody loves Errek Suhr. I do, you do (if you don't, you really should) and, upon meeting him, your grandmother would probably pinch his cheeks and call him a nice young man. Heck, with the holiday season looming, I'd bet the Grinch and Scrooge would have a hard time not liking him.
