Welcome Home

·

On a day when most IU students funneled back on campus for the start of a new semester, the IU men's basketball team had its own homecoming. The Hoosiers returned from a 74-67 loss at Ohio State on Tuesday for their Big Ten home opener Sunday at Assembly Hall. With a rowdy home crowd behind them, the Hoosiers rolled to a decisive 73-51 win against Michigan State, moving their Big Ten record to 1-1. Sunday's victory is the ninth consecutive win for the Hoosiers when opening Big Ten play at Assembly Hall.

Cougar eludes authorities after escape from Indiana preserve

·

A cougar scaled a 14-foot fence to escape a western Indiana preserve and remained at large Sunday, apparently leaving behind the remains of two raccoons it had killed, a conservation officer said Sunday. The 8- or 9-year-old wildcat, which is tan in color and weighs about 80 pounds, escaped the Exotic Feline Rescue Center on Friday and eluded a tracker over the weekend, Max Winchell of the Indiana Department of Natural Resources said Sunday.

Fashion hookers and retail pimps

·

Lately, big-time designers have been whoring themselves out to the mass consumer market. But I mean "whoring" in a respectable way -- think less of the stiletto boot-sporting streetwalker type and more of the Chanel-sporting "lady of the night" type. But everyone knows a ho ain't complete without her pimp. In this case H&M and Target are the backers behind this slutty endeavor. And now they're rolling on 20-inch rims (big pimpin', spending G's).

Making it work: Program adjusts to increased interest

·

Fabric surrounds Justin Stutzman. A fifth-year senior, Stutzman is one of six students in IU's individualized major program in fashion design. The runway show for his senior line isn't until March 24, but he works tirelessly, as if it's tomorrow. It's hard to succeed in the fashion industry, he says, and with a recent flood of "wannabe" designers applying to fashion schools, including IU, it's only going to get harder.
