Sampson inks future of Hoosier basketball

Four recruits signed to play for IU coach Kelvin Sampson and the Hoosiers on Wednesday, National Letter of Intent Signing Day. Forwards Devin Ebanks and Tom Pritchard and guards Terrell Holloway and Matt Roth comprise Sampson’s second IU recruiting class.

Illegal file sharing shunned

IU officials are warning students who share illegally downloaded files that they could be subjected to lawsuits, but not all types of downloading would likely lead to action from the Recording Industry Association of America.

Broadway openings delayed as stagehands continue strike

NEW YORK – No talks. No comment. And no opening nights. Wednesday was to have been the New York premiere of “The Farnsworth Invention,” the eagerly anticipated return to Broadway of playwright Aaron Sorkin, the creator of such television shows as “The West Wing” and “Sports Night.”

La Bohème

For 100 years, one opera has been fantastically popular and considered an essential part of any opera house’s repertoire – Giacomo Puccini’s “La Bohème.” Exactly a century after the 1896 debut of the opera, a rock musical based off the characters and events was reinvented for the Broadway stage, and has since enjoyed the same amount of notoriety and controversy.

In a recent “you-absolutely-have-to-download-this-amazing-song” session, I sat down to sub-mainstream sensation Sufjan Stevens, hoping to hear something as delightful and moving as his hit, “Chicago.”

TV star makes an impression on WEEKEND

Frank Caliendo is a Chicago-born comedian known for his impressions of various celebrities, including George W. Bush, John Madden and Dr. Phil. Caliendo was a MADtv cast member from 2001 to 2006 and continues to appear on the halftime show 'Fox NFL Sunday.' He will host a show titled 'Frank TV' that debuts at 11 p.m. Nov. 20 on TBS.
