Politics have now expanded to the classroom. The C223 Business and Communications class is promoting voter awareness for the 2008 election through a class project that has set up a mock election coupled with an informative Web site.

The French Parliament recently passed a bill that bans the promotion of anorexia online. The law will make it illegal for anyone to promote extreme thinness. While I am normally behind almost anything that the French do or say, this one has left me completely confused.

Monroe County to give away seedlings today

Since 1970, people have celebrated April 22 as Earth Day. This year, the Monroe County Solid Waste Management District will celebrate by handing out tree seedlings at its Central Recycling and Reuse Facility.

Bloomington police arrested two IU students Saturday morning at an apartment in the Varsity Villas after one answered the door brandishing a knife at officers.

Education improvements welcome

Last week, Republican Gov. Mitch Daniels announced a proposal to make higher education more accessible to lower-income Hoosier families. Meeting with officials from Indiana colleges and universities, Daniels said he wants the state to provide $6,000 to students pursuing higher education from families that make less than $54,000 annually. That figure is the median income in Indiana, meaning that the funding could potentially provide many middle- and lower-income students with access to valuable education and skills training.

Vincennes guard set to sign with IU

After a visit to IU, Vincennes University sophomore Devan Dumes has made up his mind. On Tuesday at 7:00 p.m., the 6-foot-2 guard will sign his letter of intent to play for IU at the Wheeler-Dowe Boys and Girls Club in Indianapolis.

While people as far south as Atlanta felt Friday's earthquake, some at IU did not even stir when the 5.2 magnitude quake hit at 5:30 a.m. Others first thought the motion was because of laundry or construction.

Miss Gay IU crowned at IU Auditorium

Drag queen contestants performed a variety of pageant activities Friday night at the IU Auditorium in hopes of attaining the Miss Gay IU title. Contestants’ musical performances ranged from Britney Spears to Avenue Q. The pageant winner and new Miss Gay IU is Britney Taylor.
