Scary for all the wrong reasons

·

Turning over the director's chair to David Zucker for the third installment of the Scary Movie series might have been the one good idea Keenan Ivory Wayans had when conceiving this movie.

Spice up Your Halloween

·

Tradition tells us that Halloween is all about tricks and treats, but digging deeper, history tells a much more elaborate story. Originally an Ancient Celtic celebration of the final harvest of the growing season, when spirits were thought to be closest to the living, townspeople would go from door to door collecting food for the gods.

If you give 'em enough Dope...

·

In this age of nu-metal bands such as Linkin Park, it is often tough for metal bands to establish a name for themselves. This is the case for Dope, a metal band that has not yet received the credit they deserve.

Getting Over the Rainbow

·

Senior Bruce Davis is your "ordinary" college student. He goes to class, is in a romantic relationship, interns at Bloomington City Hall and likes to go to the occasional bar or club on the weekends.

Dirty albums to become precious treasures

·

For those unfamiliar with The Replacements or Paul Westerberg (The Replacements' principle songwriter), you should know that The Replacements were one of those college-rock bands of the early '80s who are responsible for the flannel-clad warriors of the early '90s like Pearl Jam and the Screaming Trees.

Eagles rock the classics

·

The Eagles Farewell I tour packed Conseco Fieldhouse to the nosebleed seats Saturday night with middle-aged hippies and yuppies alike longing for the music of their younger days. The most expensive tickets cost fans $150, but nostalgic fans begrudged the band none of it for a night filled with back-to-the-good-old-days music.

Manipulative, monopolistic, myopic MTV mars

·

Remind me, what does Seth Green getting "Punk'd" for illegal gambling have to do with music again? Yes, MTV's hit series "Punk'd" is back for another season. But MTV doesn't stop there in providing viewers with a glimpse into second-tier celebrities' lives.

'Come on over' and ride the Twain

·

I will admit it. I am in love with Shania Twain. From her great voice, her high energy, emotionally packed music and her gorgeous looks, Twain had the eyes of me and a sold-out Conseco Fieldhouse in Indianapolis transfixed on her during her two hour and 15 minute concert last Tuesday night.

'Echoes' of post-punk and everything else

·

In the tradition of the Talking Heads, a band has come along with a sound too abrasive for the mainstream and too stunning to dismiss. You'll probably never see The Rapture hamming it up on TRL, but their debut album Echoes is one of the strongest and hardest-to-categorize records to come out this year.

The Stills show movement

·

Upon first listen, The Stills' first album demonstrates little more than an ability to follow in the steps of Interpol, while still cranking the Pop knob in the studio to MAX. Obvious parallels include Brit-heavy influence from bands like Joy Division, The Smiths and The Cure.

Anti-Flag's punk is pro-pulsive

·

Joe Strummer is smiling in heaven. While taking many pot shots for their lucrative tours, Anti-Flag's a punk rock band whose music remains rooted in the past while their politics focus on the present and their sights are set on a brighter future.

The Shins 'chute' to thrill

·

Sometimes on a long road trip, the traveler will want to step out and take some pictures of the beautiful, unusual scenery. That pastoral appreciation is what listening to The Shins is like. On Chutes Too Narrow, the band's vision is of a crevice of Americana that's as pure as a freshly mown meadow and gently rolling stream.

Undoubtedly genius lyrics, same old music

·

Barenaked Ladies have once again delivered an upbeat, intelligent album. Everything to Everyone, their seventh album, follows in the footsteps of fun lyrics mixed with a little political commentary and just a touch of sentimentality.

'Border' misses mark, can't hit one genre

·

There is a fine line between sentimental and pretentious, and Beyond Borders crosses it without looking back. Borders is supposed to evoke emotions of sympathy for people in underdeveloped countries suffering from lack of food and medications. This movie misses its mark while volleying back and forth through different genres.
