Hoosier fans: Curb your enthusiasm

·

Whether you'd like to admit it or not, Indiana basketball isn't what it used to be. Granted, the Hoosiers are 2-0 so far this young season, but four-point home wins over lowly Indiana State and Western Illinois don't exactly exude confidence.

Gravy, baby

·

Thanksgiving, like communism, is a nice idea in theory. However, applied in actuality, this lovely, good-spirited holiday often produces massive amounts of chaos and torture.

The reality of big labor

·

"There's hippies everywhere!" A campus employee uttered this to a class this summer in the Kelley School of Business graduate building. The events in question had to do with anarchists protesting conferences being held relating to the G8 economic summit. Traveling abroad, security abreast

·

It's an end to the era of the "Mile-high Club" when the groping begins at sea level. Since the Transportation Security Administration modified its procedures for domestic and incoming international flights, airport screeners now give new meaning to the expression "hands-on."

Patriotism, not treason

·

In response to Hina Alam's article ("Students look at moving abroad in light of election," Nov.29) there are a few comments I would like to make. First, to Mr. Angel Rivera who states "I moved to America from Puerto Rico," your move was no different than, say, someone moving from New York to Florida.

At ease with Silent Arms

·

TERRE HAUTE, Nov. 20 -- The soldiers are at ease ... for now. They do not march; they stroll. With eyes that practically drool, the soldiers gaze at tables cluttered with price-tagged weapons. They clutch Bowie knives with purpose, aim shotguns at imaginary targets or test the comfort of Army helmets. Some of the soldiers arrive unarmed; others come prepared for the frontlines. They enter the room with long blades hidden in sheaths or rifles slung over shoulders or pistols gripped in palms.

It's a little-known fact that in 1970 Kurt Vonnegut, best known for novels like the best-seller "Slaughterhouse Five," decided to take a chance and try his hand at playwrighting. The result of this experiment is the play "Happy Birthday, Wanda June," a crazy and comedic play that will be performed by the IU Department of Theatre and Drama this weekend.

Rumors, myths unfounded at IU Health Center

·

When it comes to rumors concerning the IU Health Center on campus, students have probably heard them all. Allegations range from "they don't have real doctors, only nurse practitioners" to "they never really examine you, they just give you a Z-Pack (a packet of the antibiotic zithromax)." Many students who have never personally visited the IUHC hold an unsatisfactory opinion of the care that it provides.

75 years of faithful service

College students don't always need innovative methods to capture their attention -- sometimes the simplicity of tradition is all that is required to be faithful.
