Hoosier Compass wins RHA elections

The Hoosier Compass will serve as the governing body for the Residence Halls Association, having won the election Tuesday with 491 total votes. The Chuck Norris ticket lost the race with 417 votes.

The United States has to stand back and put itself in other countries’ shoes, said Mary Beth Long, former Assistant Secretary of Defense for International Affairs, during her Tuesday night lecture at the Indiana Memorial Union Whittenberger Auditorium.

Alleged La. Klan leader pleads not guilty in death

The alleged leader of a Ku Klux Klan group pleaded not guilty Tuesday to second-degree murder in the shooting death of an Oklahoma woman who police said was killed during an initiation at a remote campsite in southern Louisiana.

Student finds career with IUPD

After the summer of his sophomore year, junior and IU Police Department officer Ben Rupenthal completed the IUPD police academy, making him a sworn police officer and member of the law enforcement community. Splitting his time between being a student and working as a police officer has affected Rupenthal’s life in more ways than just limiting his free time.

Graduate students propose fee changes at BFC meeting

The Bloomington Faculty Council met Tuesday at the Indiana Memorial Union for its fourth meeting of the semester. One of the most discussed issues was a resolution presented to the council by Nicholas Clark, president of the IU Graduate and Professional Student Organization, and Brian Horne, a member of the Student Academic Appointee Affairs Committee within the BFC. The proposal was a recommendation to the administration to be more lenient about fees graduate students have to pay if they change their course schedule within the first week of classes.

The Health Programs Fair will take place from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. today in Alumni Hall in the Indiana Memorial Union. The fair is free and open to the public, and students are encouraged to stop by even if they are unsure about graduate or medical school, Tolen said.

State bill to help cancer patients moves to Senate

The Indiana House of Representatives unanimously voted in favor of alleviated medical costs for patients willing to participate in clinical trials furthering cancer research. The measure now moves to the Senate for consideration. If passed, the bill will take effect July 1.
