Hill attends health care reform summit

President Barack Obama invited more than 140 people to a health care reform summit at the White House last Thursday.

Representatives from Congress, the health care industry, drug companies and labor unions were in attendance.

Following opening remarks, the attendees broke into smaller groups to discuss possible solutions.

In his remarks, Obama said increasing insurance premiums and the growing number of uninsured people, now up to 45 million according to the Kaiser Family Foundation, are growing problems.

Rep. Baron Hill attended the summit and expressed his ideas in one of the breakout sessions.

Katie Moreau, spokesperson for Hill, said paying for health care was a major concern. Hill asked his constituents to voice their concerns about health care recently.

“The majority of people want affordable health care, but people drop off when it comes to discussing the details,” Moreau said.

During the summit Obama proposed a $634 billion reserve fund funded by taxes that will help pay for the overhaul of the health care system.

Hill sits on the Energy and Commerce committee, which oversees health care in the United States.

Moreau said Hill was “keeping his mind open to all options.”
