Indiana to start budget season with $2 billion surplus

During fiscal year 2012, which ended June 30, Indiana received $383 million more revenue than was originally forecasted and spent $275 million less than was anticipated in the budget passed in April 2011, according to a press release

Severe drought in Monroe County equates to loss in local yield, economy

As of June 5, the Indiana State Climate Office declared 68.8 percent of Monroe County in a state of severe drought. Farmers are utilizing a number of strategies to avoid reliving the disaster of 1988. Indiana lost $40 million in crop-related expenditures that year after the largest wildfires in U.S. history started after a drought in Yellowstone National Park.

Items seized during the searches included about 40-50 grams of cocaine, about 40 grams of heroin, a 9mm Ruger handgun and $5,100 in cash. BPD Cpt. Joe Qualters said the total street value of the seized drugs is nearly $20,000.

A Bloomington artist for almost 40 years, Steffey McQueen completed her undergraduate and graduate studies in printmaking at IU. Her newest exhibit, “Nature Play,” is on display at the By Hand Gallery in downtown Bloomington.
