During a summer in which many IU sports teams and athletes have been honored for their academic achievements, the IU women’s water polo team is keeping the awards coming.
Six members of the team were honored with 2012 Women’s All-Academic Awards for their accomplishments during this past season, the Association of Collegiate Water Polo Coaches announced this morning.
Student-athletes who receive the award are divided into three categories based on their grade point average: Outstanding (3.71-4.00), Superior (3.41-3.70) and Excellent (3.20-3.40).
Sophomore attacker Meghan Lappan earned Outstanding recognition for the second consecutive and was joined by freshman guard Shelby Taylor.
One category below, sophomores Shae Fournier (an attacker) and Amanda Redfern (defender) earned spots in the Superior category.
Filling out the Excellent category were freshman utility Summer Creighton and senior defender Hanna Eimstad, who has earned the honor each of the last four years.
