The Main Squeeze

Main Squeeze to play for returning students

As IU students head back to town or are already unpacking, parties are being planned, bar specials are being announced and bands are preparing to entertain. The Main Squeeze, the headliner for Friday’s welcome back concert at the Bluebird Nightclub, is one of them. The funk/rock band is scheduled to play at midnight.

The stage is set for Bluebird’s summertime Battle of the Bands Finals. The event will take place at 9 p.m. Thursday at Bluebird Nightclub on N. Walnut Street. Tickets are $3 at the door.

BEAD brings art, culture downtown

It is that time of year for students to either move in for the first time or return to the Bloomington scene. However, while freshmen and transfer students will probably turn a blind eye to a new feature, returning Bloomington residents might notice a new addition to downtown and Kirkwood — banners sporting “Bloomington Entertainment and Arts District,” or BEAD.

Art exhibit features floral arrangements

Flowers of all shapes, sizes and colors filled the IU Art Museum this weekend for its second Art in Bloom exhibition. The exhibit consisted of a two-day flower show that contained floral exhibits from 12 different members of the Bloomington Garden Club.

The leaders of the DGTL are raising funds to begin construction on a new, ecologically sustainable center at 2150 E. Dolan Rd. for learning about and practicing Buddhism.The first of many fundraising events was a concert by the Barnard Sisters on Aug. 8.

Mellencamp to perform Oct. 29 at IU Auditorium

John Mellencamp will open his "No Better Than This" tour Oct. 29 at the IU Auditorium. The tour will celebrate the Aug. 17 release of his new album "No Better Than This."

BHSS alumni production brings laughs, support

From July 21 to 31, zany props joined poor Yorick’s skull on the Bloomington High School South auditorium stage for “The Complete Works of William Shakespeare (Abridged).” All profits benefited the Monroe County Community School Corporation’s extracurricular activities fund.
