No voting for grades

·

Merrill Skaggs, a professor of American literature at Drew University, found herself in a bit of hot water recently over voter registration. Skaggs planned to make voting a class requirement. She came up with the idea after learning that only about one-third of college-aged students vote.

The dollar and the documentarian

·

I think it's safe to say that nowadays in America Michael Moore is a household name. From the early years of investigating questionable corporate behaviors, to the standing up for the little man era that was "The Awful Truth," and even an Academy Award-winning film on our nation's gun control policies, it was only a matter of time until Michael Moore found a truly opportunistic moment to lash out at the current presidency.

Ruining my life, anytime I want

·

On-Demand television will ruin my life. For those of you who are unfamiliar with On-Demand TV, it is a service provided by digital cable that allows one to watch TV shows and movies anytime one wants. Not only that, but it can be paused, rewound and so forth. Typically, the On-Demand service is attached to premium channels' packages, in my case HBO and Starz.

Love these DVDs, you will

·

"Star Wars" is finally here on DVD, and, frankly, if you don't know the plots of these movies, you must have been stuck under a rock on Tatooine for the last 27 years.

'This type of thinking' makes for good music

·

Chevelle is back with its second major record label release, This Type of Thinking Could Do Us In. It seems that this time around, Chevelle's type of thinking hasn't really changed all that much, and that's a good thing.

Harper shines a 'light'

·

Ben Harper is one of those beautiful 20th century musicians who throughout his career has been walking hand-in-hand with his influences -- it's always a battle to find the right proportions of Kravitz, Dylan, Motown or anyone else in the rhythms.

Costello delivers bipolar ride

·

With the inevitability of maturity, Elvis Costello has morphed from the quirky, pigeon-toed nerd of punk on My Aim Is True into its seasoned grandfather.

Boys of Green Day grow up

·

From lip-biting masturbation and adolescent drug use, to a critical look at sociological and political issues, Green Day's lyrics have obviously evolved over the past decade, along with its style, sound, attitude and personality.

'Dance' if you got the time

·

A midlife crisis usually consists of learning to dance, right? OK, that might not be so common. What is common though is for a midlife male to have an attraction to a younger female, or so pop culture says. This 2004 adaptation of "Shall We Dance?" has a very 1930s feel to it with a new twist.

Veto this lame knockoff film

·

If you are looking for a cookie-cutter version of Mandy Moore's flick "Chasing Liberty," then "First Daughter" starring Katie Holmes is the right film for you.

The Indiana Daily Student

Movie will soon be 'forgotten'

·

Start with a very interesting and eerie hook: A mother who mourns the death of her 9-year-old son finds out that he didn't really die in a plane crash over a year ago; he never even existed.

Bernitts pledge to fight Wells' lawsuit

·

After County Councilman Scott Wells filed a lawsuit Monday naming Herman "Bud" and Amy Bernitt as defendants, the Bernitts plan to do one thing: "fight." Wells's attorney, David Colman, filed the lawsuit on his behalf Monday. In September 2002, the Bernitts had reported a man they did not recognize, who was later identified as Wells, as "staggering" and "driving in a dangerous and erratic manner" to the Indiana State Police, according to the Wells suit.

IU Student Television started broadcasting 24-hours-a-day last week. With all the air-time to fill, the station is accepting proposals for new show ideas year-round. Anyone with a show idea can submit a proposal and work toward its realization.

Leave the cleaning to them

·

Should I clean or study? Clean or party? Clean or do anything else? These are the questions students at IU answer every day, and as many messy apartments and dorm rooms will attest, cleaning usually is the loser in the decision. Sticky floors and empty pizza boxes do eventually need cleaning, and the entrepreneurs of http:// www.afterpartycleaning.com are here to the rescue.
