Indiana football to visit White House to celebrate national championship

Indiana football is set to visit the White House on May 11 in Washington D.C. to celebrate its national championship victory, The Herald-Times’ Michael Niziolek reported Friday.

The Hoosiers notched their first national championship in program history with a 27-21 victory over the University of Miami on Jan. 19 at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami, capping a 16-0 season.

With eight players selected in the 2026 NFL Draft last weekend, and six others signing as undrafted free agents, members of the Hoosiers’ championship roster are scattered across the country. But Indiana is aiming to bring back as many players as it can for the White House visit, Niziolek reported.

The University of Alabama became the first college football national champion to visit the White House in 1961. Other national championship teams at Indiana in various sports have made the trip to Washington D.C. The Hoosiers became the first college basketball champion to visit in 1976. Ohio State is the last football program to visit, attending April 14, 2025.
